Yeah, you have a aftermarket tailhousing on the NV4500. a stock one from a Dodge will be a simple 6 bolt round pattern and much easier to adapt to. Additionally, The GM tailhousings are about 2" longer the Dodge version tailhousings so MAYBE if you use a DODGE tailhousing with a output shaft intended for a GM tailhousing it will stick way out past and give you the room for your adapter.

I think making a new adapter that bolts to both the Marlin SM465 adapter and to the NV4500 tailhousing and leaving both unaltered would be the way to go if you can. The Marlin adapter to the crawlbox seals it and holds bearings, right? I would not want to get into re-engineering that if you don't have to
I could be wrong but I believe the time and mission side adapter is two pieces that bolt together. The transfer case side has the bearing features in it. The transmission side is what I was thinking he could modify.

As for the dodge vs chevy tail I don't know how those work but I assume they use the output shaft without a coupling and the typically pass directly into the transfer case.

In his instance the output needs to be 10 spline. I don't know if they have a 10 spline output or not. They might just use a spud shaft or a coupling. One that is female with the 4500 pattern on one side and the other pattern on the opposite side.

Hope that makes sense,

Mike

DJ stated previously he has a AA output shaft on the way with a 10-spline output - that I assume is originally intended to be used with a 10-spline FJ40 T-case

I didn't know they made the whole output shaft. I thought it was just a spud shaft adapter.

Mike

I just checked, you're right, I'm an ass.
Really need to see what it looks like with the spud shaft and try to spline the two boxes together physically and just see what it looks like before making any solid plans, that's what I do anyways

That'd be the one. I'm inclined to stick with the AA tail housing just because I know it all fits with the new 10 spline output. The trans output has been trimmed to the 31 spline section to allow the new 16/10 spline output shaft.

Ok. @cruisermatt , @Godfather90 , here is what you all have been looking for.

Here is the transmission side of the adapter. It looks like it only covers the output and bearings i don't think it holds them in.

Here is what it looks like against the current AA tailhousing i have.

There appears to be a ton of excess tailhousing in there. I believe it is only there to allow for the female input to the 16 spline case. I wonder how hard it would be to get a new one cast and machined to shorten everything and readapt it directly to the Toybox. You could probably pull out at least 2 inches.

Noodle what do you want for the Muncie 465?? You said 10 spine? It’s the older version.

Yep. It's the older 4x4 10 spline version. Georg thinks it's worth about $700 with the parts and time he put into it. I'm not sure if the shifter he sent with it is right though. Why don't you send me a PM and we can talk?

It would probably cost more to have a bellhousing made completely from scratch by someone else then to just buy a Blackbox to bolt between the NV4500 and splitcase.

This kind off thing is usually only worth doing if you or buddies have your own access to machines

Probably. I'd really just like to get more driveline length if possible though.

I see so many more problems with the black box though. The need for the cooler, it's longer and would require me to spend more money makes it the least likely thing to happen here.

why are you not just using the SM465?!
That will get you more driveline length then the the NV4500 and whatever adapter you come up with for that.

Just put 4.11’s back in the axles and you’ll have plenty of highway gearing with 37’s.

I want the 5 speed. Plus, it's something that I kinda want to try and adapt anyway. I really couldn't road this thing with the SM. my gearing would be way too low.

And it’s 285:1 in double low with 4.11’s anyways which already almost completely unusable

That requires new gears and money I don't want to spend.....

Maybe call aa and see if they have any rf1a nv4500 adapters in stock that aren't listed anymore. That's exactly what you need.

or just trade them to someone with an 80 plus money on their end. I’m sure you would have plenty of 80 owners lined up to do that. 4.11’s are stronger anyways
