Most important question.

What color are you painting the cage? I'm voting rattle can chrome.

Good option there. I'd thing black with all my paneling body color and king anodized blue trim. At least, that is the powdercoating colors I just got lol.

With that type of tube config, you should never drive this without a helmet.

That b pillar bar behind the seat, what is the purpose of it? It's bent so it's not a triangulation bar, and it doesn't look to be in the right place for a harness attachment point.

Idk, I'm an amateur. @matzell weigh in here.

Mostly crush support. I can't get my head anywhere near any of the tubes I've put in, and I've been trying. I put that bar dead behind the headrest at full seat extension, it's basically impossible to hit your head on it unless you go through the seat.

Again, this isn't a full crawler that I plan on rolling, so I feel that even with a bend in that bar, once it is gusseted it will do way more than nothing there at all. It adds quite a bit of rigidity for a side impact as well.

I trust Mike's judgement quite a bit given his experience, but I'm sure others will see things differently.

I would rather see straight bars that all meet at a node. I would also like to see another bar above the seats for head protection. I spent two months out of work after a wreck when I was co-driving and we rolled 13 times. The thin alum roof panel let loose and I ended up with a bunch of broken ribs and vertibrae after a rock hit me.

This is a light wheeling rig and not a high speed racer. I think it should take a flop pretty good. I would like to see how the bracing works for the A pilar so it does not fold up if it lands on the roof. I hope to see it again at SAS 8 and take a closer look.

What type of tube are you using? Looks like it has a seam in it. HREW?

Main halo is DOM, most of the other is HREW. DOM is crazy expensive out here right now and I didn't fell like spending over 1500+ on this cage alone. DOM is definitely stronger and will deform less for sure, but I'm not going for ultimate strength out of this cage. If I'm put in a position of testing this cage multiple times with enough force to be pushing the yield of the tube, I'm doing something wrong. Same goes for the B pillar cross support. It'a not the stongest way to go, but it's a compromise that will add a little more strength against collapse. Most cages I see don't even go that far, and I hope that I'm never going to be testing this cage, but I'd rather have something there than the stock roll bar or nothing.

Got my front A pillar gussets cut out.

Started on some fuel tank mods for some more space.

I shortened the tank on the drivers side and added some extra space over the hump along with a sump.

On the sump I added a drain. Would have been handy to pull the tank today lol.

Hopefully this tank should be around 20 gal, more than enough with this engine.

Gusset on A pillar looks good!

Thanks! Still debating tying into the tub A pillar for a little more crush support, but I'm not sure.

New front seat mount.

Got to play with some mig settings, got them pretty dialed.

Driver side mockup.

Passenger tank covers.

Sub and amp mockup under the driver seat.

I built a good bit of storage space in under the seat, along with the amp and sub. Hoping to put redovery gear and tools under there, i'm planning on deleting my rear box.

I spent 3ish hours trying to get some atlas cable shifters installed. I decided not to pull the hump, dunno if that would have been faster. It really sucked lol. I got the bottom adjusted.

New center console will fill up everything and add some more storage. I like the tcase shifters on the driver side, much more accessible.

Only thing i would have done different is instead of the holes you cut out i would have cut them like a Mollie panel so you could mount things .

I'll probably add some mounting points, but I'll drill and tap those.

What gauge is the alum sheet for tank ? Are you using any insulator under tank ?

Its 1/8" 5052. I have a rubber isolation pad under the tank, but it should move with the body just fine.

Had a bunch of parts show up this week.

New switches. I have never been a big fan of rockers and I wanted something different. I found these billet 19mm switches, backlit.

They seem to have a nice, tactile click and appear to be very high quality.

Not the cheapest, but I'm excited for them.

New radio showed up. I wanted a clean, somewhat modern look without a big screen or lots of colors. It has all the goodies packed into an order styled box.

20240607_123704.webp

I started on the new center console.

Switch panel. I'm not sold on this design, but I'll see how much I like it when it is fully installed.

Started on the skeleton of the rear portion.

20240607_174302.webp

Console lid. No idea what this is out of, but it fits well and is the rightish color.

I'm going to be running some A/C ducting to the rear, so I started on the vents. It will also be getting a rear USB charger.

I need to smack the bead roll around a little, it got a bit crooked on me lol.
