Why do you want to remove it?

Well I guess thats why I'm asking the question.. I'm not sure if I need to.. its a lot of mess and effort for not much gain when Im just going to replace it..

I'd really like to clean up under here while I have access to get a nice uniform coat of primer, paint, seam sealer and sound deadener..

Currently it looks like this..

Maybe a wire wheel on a drill is enough to move the bulk of the crud and dirt without removing too much of the existing coating.. that SHOULD allow for another coat to stick over the top of it well enough..

If the coating is holding up well to the elements and doing a good job of protecting the steel under it I see no reason to remove it especially when trying find something as good as the factory is going to be costly and messy to apply.

I would power wash it good and chase anything that’s not stuck well and recoat with a good undercoating.

I'm not sure about getting pressure washer to it in its current location/state (bare metal in places, etc)

I've got 1lt of this stuff and an air gun applicator I can use to coat it

Will get a transfer case seal and bearing kit locally and then work on fitting the transfer on the back of the gearbox for the last time!

With that welded out I've wire wheeled and primed the underside ready to seam seal and coat with sound deadener.

Lot of guys use the dry ice method. Let it sit for a little while and hit with a hammer. Should come off in chunks. How you manage to do that when its upside down I'm not sure, maybe just sit the bag on the inside?

If you can flip the body over and sit the dry ice on there, that should be good!

I know on the back of mine the undercoat was falling off in places. I pressure washed, let it dry (w/ help from compressed air), ran the wire wheel over everything, then wiped w/ wax and grease remover.

If you can't pressure wash, I would take the compressed air and then wire wheel and then wax and grease remover to everything.

Yep thats where im headed. I'm finishing of the floor welding (floor to B pillar tie ins) before seam sealing.

Trying to avoid laying down seam sealer then have the heat from welding mess it up.

Now I must copy you and do that to mine.

HAH! go for it. My thinking was that with the new rockers and floor section, the inside of the B pillar wasn't as tied into the new floor as it could be.. so I added them to give a bit more "beef" to the whole setup..
 
Just one more mod before paint! I want to weld in captured bolts to the underside of the rear cargo area so i can bolt down a frame for fridge slide and the like. I looked at the 80 this evening and its got tiedown loops so will likely grab them and combine the two.. weld some nuts to 3mm spreader plate (say 50mmx50mm?), spot weld that under the floor and we're done.
 
Last night I fabbed the plates with the welded nuts to put under the floor. There is a tiedown hook from the 80 and a welded nut. I also got to seam seal most of the floor.. there are still some areas that need to be hit with a caulk gun of seam sealer but for the hard to reach stuff its all done. Then I hit it with a single coat of spray on sound deadener. I think the texture is ok and it came up good. I only have a 1LT and I probably used about 75% of that. I need to get some more to apply after I've done all the fuel tank mount welding to the body.

Tonight I'll be able to get the body back on the chassis for the last time (hopefully!).. I've also found a buyer for the 1FZ-FE and Auto out of the 80 so that'll be going on a road trip on sunday to its new owner!

now to finish off the tin work. Just waiting on the flywheel getting machined, ive got all the transfer bits for a rebearing and reseal, just gotta get her done!
