started chopping off body mounts today..

and removed the old LPG tank mounts, rear bar and swingout.. shouldn't have any trouble getting the BJ73 fuel tank in there:

Injectors and pump are in... there were some injector seats stuck i had to remove which was fun but I figured it out..

I'll try and get a shot of the shiny new pump. I'll also need to get a hand with timing because I dont have the SST required or the dial gauge to do it.

Also, all the body mount brackets are off the 80 chassis and I've been mocking up a chassis jig... 140mm (5.5") removed out of the chassis brings the wheelbase back to 2710mm (the 55 is 2700mm stock) .. I'm not going to have the luxury of placing the body on prior to welding up so going to have to have faith that @TachedOutOffRoad and @cruiserjunktion (who both had 5.5" removed from their 80/55's) will work..

The 5.5” looks good so far.
Pushed the front end just a little forward.

I have no idea what I’m doing, where I am most of the time, am usually drunk, and my body isn’t bolted down yet :cheers:

but good luck!!

I’ve gotten so spoiled my 2 post lift. It’s easy to lift and trim and lift and measure and lift and whatever.
You’re a better man than me!

Joined the two lower arms for reference prior to chassis mount removal, as well as attempted to maintain the pinion angle.

Cut off one lower arm mount

with the other side still left to do

Also welded out the telescopic chassis jig (not yet welded it to the chassis):

@bobm
Just so you know California doesn't care about your modifications to frame or body. You can make a car out of toothpicks and motor that runs on dynamite. As long as it passes smog, ya good.

I am thinking Wile E Coyote here, w/ a crate of dynamite from Acme Corp...

Finally sold our KZJ120 Prado after near 18 months on the market.. not bad return with a $1KAUD depreciation/year in the 4yrs we had it.. anyway.. with the proceeds making a dent in the mortgage and now down to a single vehicle I should be even more motivated to get this build sorted but still procrastinating slightly on the chassis chop..

80 series chassis shortening
Well no going back now!!

Made some guides to make sure my cuts would be parallel..

Wheelbase is now 2710mm (stock is 2700mm) .. measures F &R coil towers lengthwise and diaganol and they match up, straight edge along the underside of the chassis rail.. jig position confirms 140mm shortening on both sides too..

Awesome. Not sure what your engineer requires but I had a look at a chassis at Gaythorne (yes its a real place) the other day that was cut in the same spot (250mm extension) and had a big fish plate on the outer rail.

Yep got a fishplate done up in CAD to cut out in 3mm sheet for both the inside and outside of the rails
