Yes, and the pictures don’t even really do them justice. I can’t think of any car I’ve been in with brighter interior lights.

This is when I had rock lights in the wheel wells.

Ended up being the distributor was 180 out, which happens to me EVERY TIME!
Anyways, got it running and proceeded to beat the s*** out of it off-road breaking another longside birf on and destroying some wheel bearings and a spindle on the other side.

Sweet! V8s belong in 60 series rigs in my opinion. I do ok with my 2f in my 40, but I don't know how people can handle f series power in a 60 or 62 series. Is it a 4.8 or 5.3 or bigger? Do you have emissions where you are? Got any pics of the longfield carnage?

It’s an L33, so 5.3, all-aluminum with the LS6 799 heads. Also a better cam then the normal truck cam. Known as a “5.3 H.O.”
It’s out of a 2006 1500 Extra-cab 4wd.

I actually broke another stock birf.. I said after this one I’ll put RCV’s in but I still have one more set of stock spares, and I’m picking up an FJ60 front axle next weekend for something else... so I’ll have more stock spares to keep breaking! I think this is #5 or #6.

Matt why don’t you simplify things and reduce your labor (future) by upgrading your axles? Will eliminate any frustrating downtime on the trail as well. Look forward to seeing the V-8 build.

You’re right, however stock axles seem to keep falling in my lap??
When I have the $700 sitting around...

4:1 transfer case gears are higher on the list, but with the V8 I might not need them.
I also need a wiring harness, ECU, intake manifold, and accessories for the V8. Also shocks for the SOA. So there’s a few bucks there too.
I’d also really like a selectable rear-locker, a fridge, a new winch motor and synthetic line, etc. It adds up!!
On a side note, I’ve gotten very fast at swapping them out, less then an hour easily. I did one at GSMTR in a half-hour.

Looks like some replacement spring hangers in there. Are they designed to go with stock springs/location?

I put together my own custom kit, I’m going to 63” Chevy 3/4 ton springs in the rear, and my current front 2.5” lift springs will be staying. They are getting old so they are probably the equivalent to stock springs with an A-A-L. However I will be doing a shackle reversal and moving the front axle forwards an inch or two.
But upper shackle bolts front and rear will be frenched through the frame.

Awesome Matt. I have great respect for your thought process and determination. BTW...I’m still saving the rear sill section for you. No rush as it’s in a good place. I still need to cut all the other good metal (what’s left) before I recycle the body.

I COMPLETELY forgot about that Jim. Thanks.

Let's see if this works..

Yep. Totally changed the way I wheel. Although I need to cut grind out all the welds and redo them now that I have a higher powered machine in my home shop. I have a plan for a belly pan that acts as a gusset for them as well, they deflect a little bit.

You had some nice articulation

Great crawl. I love seeing the difference in rock from area to area. Truck looks awesome. Agreed w/ the articulation... that rear tire was totally stuffed.
