Yes it’s good to be putting some miles on and enjoying it. Yes the PO installed steel caster shims while the shackles were installed.

This weekend was great, I got to put the cruiser through its first test. We loaded up and drove it right back to where I was in April when the crankshaft snapped. We loaded up for a quick one night trip, and drove out to the mountains to take advantage of some cool air that moved in. I convinced the wife to sleep under the ARB Awning and I have never actually set up the wall kit, so I had to go look at it and make sure it had a floor. I had looked up some cots that work for a double mattress and had a few ideas, but when we got down to it I just ran to walmart and picked up two single cots since they could be returned if we really didn't like them. We have a pretty nice Nemo Roamer double mattress pad we picked up at an REI sale so we were excited to try out the setup.
First Order was stopping at a local spot to get breakfast, I got brisket eggs benedict...why not?
First we stopped a a swimming hole and let the dogs swim as we jumped of a small waterfall, the cruiser ran great the whole way so that was great.
Not a bad place to stop and cool off, the water was nice and the dogs enjoyed it more than we did.
After that we walked around town for a minute, had a mid day snack and walked along the river, then off to our campsite. We found a nice spot where I could setup the awning with level ground.
Like I said, I had never set up the ARB Awning and deluxe wall kit (that I purchased with the cruiser from the PO). This thing is nice, it has all four walls, and a floor as well as a ceiling. The ceiling has a clear pass through so the LED light from the awning shines in. The middle picture below is facing the cruiser, so it has a back wall that you can zip open to access the rear passenger door, but it is closed off to keep the bugs out!!! All 3 outward facing walls can unzip to be basically all screen. You can see we had room for the double mattress on cots and then space for a dog bed and plenty more.
Shannon wanted a nice Rumple blanket for camping so I got a woodland colored Woobie for a quarter of the price...
We got hit by two big storms in the middle of the night and we stayed warm and dry so I'd say the setup was a win!

We had a great dinner, Shannon made quesadillas, then the rain showed up and we hung out in the tent, here is a picture of Charlie passed out while I finished an adult beverage or two and watched the lightning show. The amber color of that photo is from the ARB awning LED lights, I had them on the warm light, dimmed down...another cool feature.
I had coordinated with my brother to stop by Sunday morning (he was going to be in the area). He stopped by the site while we were having coffee, breakfast, and just getting going. We split off from the group, fly rods in hand. It didn't take long to see some cool stuff, I immediately saw a Monongahela crayfish while we were throwing our packs on and starting down the trail. (Blue guy in the first picture below). My first cast hooked a decent Brook trout, so I knew I was done for after that.... saw a few fish, hooked a Rhododendron or two and before I knew it I was headed back to the camp.
Shannon and I broke down camp, hit the brewery for a pizza (first picture), then it was the 2ish hour drive home. The cruiser ran great!! Everyone slept, and I just listened to some tunes and enjoyed the A/C, which worked great. Today I finally broke down all the boxes from all of the parts and took them to the recycling center.
All in all it was a great weekend and a great test of the cruiser. I still have plenty to do: Cruise control, dual battery kit, run a longer wire for the winch and rewire the roof lights... but I can drive it now, and I'm enjoying that!
I still need to see if my dad has a 46mm socket in his shop, I started to tear into the 3F-E to see exactly how it looks. Heres one of the pieces of my crankshaft...need to pull the harmonic balancer, timing gears, and backing plate to get the other part of the crankshaft out. Most of the bearings look good, but the 1st and last main bearing look a little rough, I am assuming that was from the crank snapping but who knows....

What diagram are you using for your clutch switch. Or at least what pin/ connector. I'm about to dive into setting up cruise as well

I was finally able to fly up to West Chester, PA and meet up with @rfj62 and pick up a dash I bought from him back in April. I have been so busy with the swap (and life) that its taken me this long to get up there and pick it up....
It was either a 3 hour drive, endless amounts of money to ship it, or a 55min flight up, so I chose the latter of the three.
It was a rainy over his way, but it was clear and a million over my way....
I made good time with a slight tailwind and mostly a crosswind, luckily when I saw the weather had moved in it was not convective and that mde for a smooth ride over, I was able to sip my coffee and enjoy it.
If it fits it ships!! luckily Jeff had a nice box to keep the dash protected on its journey home. We chatted for a bit and I checked out his sweet 62. I didn't get any pictures but its almost the same color as mine, maybe just shade or two darker (which I like).
Today I figured I would go ahead and install it and it was pretty quick considering I had just pulled the old one for the swap. I had it out and the new one in in about an hour, just in time for dinner.
Its difficult to tell which one is the old one, but it is the one on the right
Now I just need to find a decent place to recover my steering wheel. Not really something I am in a hurry to do, but it just looks hideous! But I am more than happy to have a decent dash with no cracks, and it was nice to buy it from another mud member and save a little $$$$ in the process!
I also straightened out my steering wheel. I had tried before and failed because someone installed the steering shaft 180 degrees out, so the bolts aren't accessible when the wheel and tires are centered. Today I pulled the steering shaft cover, steering shaft, aligned the box and steeringwheel, then put everything back together.

I bought some used front seatbelts from Jonas at Barnyard cruisers back in May. My passenger side seatbelt didn’t have the stop on it & was crushed by the door, so it would fall down to the floor every time soneone got out…. Turns out my drivers side was a different style (possibly wrong) so I swapped them both out tonight.
The set I got from @jkdur728 were in great shape & the buckles aren’t broken, the belts had the plastic stop on them still….good as new. The wife will be happy now!
