I dont think i'll need to replace all of the inner skin, just parts of it. and the outer skin, i'm still trying to figure out how to make that. I left a little meat on the body so i have somewhere to weld to and blend.. rather than trying to do it into a corner/seam on the outside

I understand the best way to make the rear outer lip is to splice in sections of front fender lip. The right front is the same as the left rear and vice versa. I collected several mangled, rusty front fenders for my project. My intention was to use them to make repairs to my rear fender lips. Good on you for diving into this piece of your project! Good luck!

Finished up the rear quarter.. just need some seam sealer and body filler..

( I was chasing a thin bit of steel that was blowing holes in the edge of the new panel)

Just need to seam seal these joins

all that with that rock? NICE!!!

just using an anvil, dollys and hammers. hard when you see all these youtube vids with shrinkers, stretchers, english wheels and bead rollers... none of that fancy s*** here unfortunately.. :(

still got more to do but it was a rough fit up/progress pic.. i've got about 6 blisters across 3 fingers from that hammer work.. even while wearing work gloves..

its hard with the factory steel being really thin in places and blowing holes.. also my fit up isnt great in spots so also have to build up the new material with weld to bridge the gap.. luckily this is only in two places..

nice work...if you can get to the back side of your work, you can hold a piece of aluminium or brass under it to keep the blow-thru down.

Might leave the new metal a bit long and use a “Panel Flanger” around the edge so you can slip if under the old thin rusty metal as a backer.

A “Panel Flanger” is easy to make from an old set of vice grips if you don’t have one.

noice!

G'day, I don't venture into the 55 section very often. But from time-to-time I swing by and catch up on your build. Your welding and panel fabrication skills have improved out of sight. The lip on the rear guard is great. A bit of body filler and it will look a million dollars. Keep at it. Cheers, Ben

Thanks Ben!

So the other night i had my led shop light down behind the panel id just welded in and found a few oin holes that got welded up today. Finished that side by spot welding and trimming behind the wheel and finished welding up in front.. pushed it out of the shed to clean up before i tackle the other side.. while it was out i slapped the 60 powersteer box back on and tried to fit the bj73 intermediate.. it will need some grinding of the outer to remain collapsible. Also mocked up the f250 shock towers..
