Made the jump from fj40 to fj55 this weekend! I am sad to see my old one go but it was time for more space and adventures. I am on the ferry home now! (yeah I have to take a car ferry home) Traded with a good friend of mine. Cant wait to dig in more on this mechanically. I have a build thread going already! Mounted the roll cage to the frame and installed my sliders. Seam sealed the edges to keep moisture out.

It look like you made a cross bar for your lift arms to reach the narrower frame in this area. I thought about this, my lift barely reaches and is slightly over extended!

Yours was a ‘64, correct? Let me know if you have any extra parts. ;-)

Also, I thought about putting my DS mirror mount like yours…I have two holes there where it would go but I put it on the windshield hinge. Are they ‘supposed’ to go on those two holes where you have yours mounted? The PS of mine doesn’t have the holes.

yeah it was a 64. I have seen them in brochures with it just mounted to the side of the cowl like that. I am sad to see it go but who knows one day I may get another or buy it back. The 55 is pretty epic though I have always wanted one. 40 was a close second but ever since I watched 50 first dates I wanted a 55.

I dont think I really have many extra parts to be honest. I have the 60 series power steering gear box it had when I got it still I think. The other parts I kept will work on the 55 too.

It's the Samurai's fault.

It's the Samurai's fault.
It really is. that thing has all the same fun the 40 has in terms of driving. and working AC. But the real reason is we are starting a family and I wanted somthing that will be easier with children. However my stipulation was it had to be older! I didnt want a 100 or 80 series! I would love another early 80 series one day though. I loved my early 1991 until we rolled it.

I think youll find that the 55 is the more useful rig.
Less aftermarket garbage is available to distract you from wheelin it.
Cargo space is better
Passenger space is roomier.
They're better looking.
You got the better end of that trade.
Plus theres ash trays for the kids. Car manufacturers today seem to always cheap out on ashtrays for the kids and kids today vape anyway, so you're getting a time capsule as well.

I am very happy with the trade. its going to need very much the typical rust weld repair - rockers, front floor pans, front floor pan support, and the lower fender. Luckly it did come with new rockers and floor pans + floor supports.I just gotta start cutting and welding. bonus I swapped in a 2f and 4 speed before the trade. Yeah it is far better with the ash treys for sure. You know you joke but the vaping/smoking thing has come full circle. Our employees at the surf shop told me they were smoking cigarettes because vapes were so bad for you..... direct quote: "you dont know whats in vapes" hahaha. I guess its because school systems have had a pretty strong anti vape program in the last decade and gotten relaxed about cigarettes.

My kids love playing with the ash trays in the rear armrests of my Chevelle! Clanking them open and shut constantly and asking why they’re there.

God I miss smoking…

I haven't driven mine since 1991 and the other day I checked the ash tray and it was full of old butts and I have not ever been a smoker and they may have been my Dad "s.
I do remember playing with the ash trays in the back seat.

FJ40’s taking over the local Cars and Coffee, most I’ve seen in 1 spot in Spokane. @Skreddy @Spokruiser you guys need to come out next month! 😎
