I have now been baptized by grease and dirt. I am one with my Troopy. Learned a lot, cleaned everything up, put it back together and much to my surprise, IT ALL WORKS!!

What was most surprising is how much resistance was in those fronts. Before I could barely push it on level ground. Now without too much effort all 3500lbs rolls easily. So much so, that the engine isn’t working as hard now, no loss of power on the inclines and 1/2 to 3/4 throttle to keep it at 60 MPH. Definitely worth the effort.

We had a hitch hiker on the way to town in the form of a rat snake come down under the passenger dash and rubbed my wife’s foot. It was quite the adventure coming to a good place to stop. Im not sure if it’s still in there but I’ve opened up everything to allow him to exit under peaceful means.

At least you don’t have to worry about rodents while he’s in there. The smell of which probably drew him in.

Fantastic, I know the feeling. The results speak for themselves. Good job!

Rear transfer case output seal complete. Been slowly leaking for years now. Rebuilt the parking brake while I had it apart. And found the fuel line under there was old and cracked so replaced that section. Refilled the transfer case with amsoil. Also rebuilt the center arm and got that adjusted. Lots of small projects!

This is on my list of things to do, but I’ve got a 2F + 4sp in a ‘67 so I don’t have the clearance without removing the motor mounts and jacking up the front so that I can get the drum off.

How did you sear the seal? Did you use any FIPG on the washer/ nut?

No FIPG used. There is a "lip" inside that the new seal sits against. Slowly pounded it in to make sure it was even going in. Came with grease around the inside lip. Quality and design wise it was much better than the after market one in there so hopefully it lasts. There is a better double seal that is out there but I had an OEM one laying around.
Hopefully that answers your question.

One of the bestest things on my Land Cruiser BESIDES EVERYTHING ELSE….is the double seal speedo housing from Valley Hybrids.

This is what it looked like prior to the upgrade

I did that job when the brake would not hold on a grade... When I installed the H55F and split transfer case I made sure it included the TC mounted parking brake. On my build it is the only drum brake in the braking system.

Made the jump from fj40 to fj55 this weekend! I am sad to see my old one go but it was time for more space and adventures. I am on the ferry home now! (yeah I have to take a car ferry home) Traded with a good friend of mine. Cant wait to dig in more on this mechanically. I have a build thread going already! I will miss this one

Mounted the roll cage to the frame and installed my sliders. Seam sealed the edges to keep moisture out.

It look like you made a cross bar for your lift arms to reach the narrower frame in this area. I thought about this, my lift barely reaches and is slightly over extended!
