Late 40 or 70 series axle with the integrated ebrake drum is the easiest
Yep, so I decide to have a FF rear Diamond axle made the width as my 60 front. It has 4runner discs and integrated ebrake drums, but I could never get enough pull to lock up the rear. Voodoo says the electric ebrake cable pulls more and works good, so that's my next step.

I have been a Ford guy from childhood and developed a love for Toyota. My Father in Law was a second generation Ford Tech and was a Parts and Service manager till he retired. My daily is an Explorer Sport and my wife drives an Edge (lots of turbos). I have less brand loyalty for newer cars now. They all seem to make a decent car or truck. The LS swap to change out my tired SBC just makes good sense for reliability and cost.

98% of the Land Cruiser 200s in Saudi are white.....and they are everywhere.
 
Stan at Hardline Fabrication Services (HFS) in Chesnee, SC just recently pulled the good running 2F out of this absolutely stunning '79 pig for an LS swap. Stan does LS swaps into cruisers for a living, and even he flinched a little when the owner showed up with this fine pig wanting to swap it. The owner insisted,"LS power or I'm selling it." LS it is. I would have kept it Toyota, but in all honesty, a well done LS swap doesn't seem to hurt the resale these days. Swapped pigs and 60 series trucks are fetching big numbers on BaT...and they have got to be so much fun to drive as well.

Let’s talk about long(er) range fuel tanks -

Okay, the ball is slowly beginning to turn. I called my local steel yard and placed an order for a 4’x8’x.075” sheet of 304 stainless. The price wasn’t nearly as bad as I was thinking it was going to be - $268.
Had been pretty set on using 14ga, but the guy helping me out said the 0.075” sits between 14 and 16. The next size thicker was actual 12ga, so the 0.075” is just gonna have to do.
Working the dimensions of the tank out on paper had me thinking I was gonna have to buy an additional 4’x4’ sheet. I ended up sacrificing on the height, and should now be able to construct the entire tank from the one sheet. The capacity I come up with is a shade over 40 gallons. The tank will be fairly close to even with the bottom of the frame. There will be a 12” long by 1” deeper sump area in the front. The fuel pump should align fairly close to the sending unit access door in the cargo area of the tub. Planning on 2 baffles.

Here’s how it’s currently worked out on paper.

So you will not want your tank that wide. With the filler neck it wont fit or be a PITA to put in. I ended up moving the overflow inlets to the top later for better venting. I think you have a later pig and maybe it is easier, but on mine where the tank is bolted to the body, it was difficult.

Was hoping you would chime in ‘Doomer. I’m not sure what date the change was made from the body mounted tanks to the frame mounted, but my 77 is frame mounted via four pedestals. The inner frame width in this area is ~34-11/16”. The mounting holes in the pedestals span out at 34-1/2”. With the tank mounting flanges protruding somewhere between 1/4” - 1/2” beyond that on each side, if removed out the bottom it will still have to zig-zag from side to side to get out.
I was wondering about the large rectangular hole you had to cut out later on and if you think it’s a good idea to provision for that. It was for laying down a filter/mat at the bottom of the tank for the pump to draw from, correct?
 

J Mack has one in his tank, also. I'd like to add one in the future, seems to be a great idea.
 
Yes the big opening was to get the hydramat in. I also had to fight the shackle bolts for the leaf springs but I didn't mention that because I thought you outboard your perches.
