Can’t say from firsthand knowledge of the bolt-on sliders, but from pics I’ve seen, the flanges for the bolts look to be 1/4” or 3/8”?
3 mounting legs for each slider? That’s where my mind keeps going.
As someone who's had to remove the welds and clean up frames that have had sliders directly welded to them, definitely go with bolt on.
I use 3/8 plate on the frame side and get 5/8 U-bolts bent up at a local spring shop. If you look at White Knuckle or some of the other popular brands, they all use a similar approach. Web photo below to illustrate.
On the 55 I posted above it's got 3 frame mounted and 1 that ties into a frame side body support on each side, it's an 80 frame though not a 55.
The other benefit of removable, is that if you do powder coat them they can be removed to be redone. I don't recommend powder on sliders though since if you actually use them they get scraped up by design, which allows water to get underneath the powder.
The Slee Slider Steps on my 100 use the custom U-bolt approach. I have banged those sliders numerous times and they have never moved.
