Notice the 2x4 chunk to support the block against the firewall. This trick is brought to you by our sponsor @mattressking.

Pan came off daily easy with this tool.

Pilot Bearing removed with this HF Tool.

I did have to grind down on the inside of each of the jaws in order to have it fit inside the bearing.

Surprised how clean it got.

@red66toy came over today in Blueguy and we Spent some time under the rig getting the oil pan in place.

For those of you who have replaced these as a solo job. I owe you a beer, it’s miserable. The second set of hands made the deal easy.

We also bench bled the MC and swapped that and the clutch slave. Need more parts for the split case rebuild it turns out. Hope to get those early this week and make more progress.

Dialing in the last of the split case rebuild.

If changing from a vac actuated case to a non vac case. There are 2 sensors on the hi/low shift rail that tell some electronic part that the shifter is in 4wd or not.

Since I’m converting to manual shift, I’ll be plugging these. Here is what I used.

@FARMAN33 and I did a remove and replace of the old h42/300k mile split case to the new h55/georg bilt split case on my truck with a new oil pan, RMS, resurfaced flywheel, clutch, and transmount in 16 hours start to finish.

He threw me out of his garage for a few weeks after but it was worth it. We were both exhausted and felt pretty accomplished.

Great progress!

It’s starting.

Alan @Josie'sLandCruiser the resident Cat herder of the Seattle Cruiserheads came over and donated a second set of eyes and hands for this project. 3 hours and we had everything bolted back into the crossmember and frame.

Take a look at the motor angle, Dropping the back of the motor slightly made for an easier install.

Taking @POTATO LAUNCHER advice, I wised up and kept the creeper for myself this go around.

Yes!! Props to Alan for lending a hand.

H55 is in! It’s alive!!

Drove around the block, and then to work.

Need more miles to shake down before SAS.

In other news:

Hung out at @gt7058a place yesterday and welded up a tire swing arm and worked on the rear bumper more. Damn I need to get a welder like his.

@gt7058a spraying slag like a boss.

65mph at 2300rpm. GPS confirmed. Feels like it can “pull” a little more at that speed.

I did a very short run from exit to exit on the way home tonight.

Pretty rad!

Wooooo! How's 1st and 2nd

First feels deep. It pulls easy with the 34’s, as if it was set up with 3.70’s and 31’s. Might have found the sweet spot.

4speed 4L 1st gear feels like it falls between

H55 w/Sumo 3:1 4L 2nd and 3rd.

I actually thought 4L 3rd was 2H 1st and when I switched into H I promptly stalled in the parking lot at work.

Bumper is mounted.

It’s not done, but it’s done enough for now.

Still need to come up with a secondary latch of some sort. Thinking a cable with clip for now. When the secondary swing arm is done they will be able to be pinned or locked together.

Shout out to Overland Tailor for the Dirt Nap Tarp. Awesome to throw it down quick to work on the rig a keep clean.

Some times good enough, is just right.

What you need to know about this photo is last year on the way to SAS2 I couldn’t roll the window down all that way because of the new speakers I installed last min.

Well another set of speakers solved that. Maybe by next year The brown will fade to black or I’ll fix the AC for the hot ride across to the mountains.

I’m seriously wondering how hard it would be to rig up some mister set-up to the headrests and visors to connect to the window washer reservoir.

To be continued...

Nice custom bumper. How’s the drivers side visibility of your drivers rear lights? From that angle it looks not visible. Those look like the Ruffstuff latches. How do you like them? I sent mine back and got a latch which has a locking action.
I bet your stoked for SAS. Perhaps next year I’ll attend. I don’t see anybody that’s representing Oregon:(

I bought the bumper mostly assembled from another member. The tire is a little to far to the driver side. Could have been that they were measuring up a 31” tire instead of 34”.

I’ll need to adjust that down the road. I also plan to install 3 way LED’s to the outside of the recovery points.

SAS was a gasp last year. Your welcome to roll with a PNW Group is your interested in going next year.

Convoy!
