The boy watched “Sound of Music” before the trip.

Many thanks my friend, just trying to keep the old Wagon going. And it just occurred to me... you never drove it to check out the front suspension! How did we forget that...

You definitely got your use out of the ground tarp this trip!

I wish I had taken a video from under the truck. It would have been the best promotional video for one ever.

Your right. Guess we will have to meet up again and remedy that.

Great pics Dave. Hunter will be wanting to drive up those passes before you know it. I can promise you these trips in the old Cruiser will be etched in his brain for a lifetime. Good job my friend.

Thanks to @ddelong6767, @abtx4x4, @gt7058a and @shastariver in the photo here (uptop) for helping with getting out of this spot.

Tried to climb up this step, went to far outside and drivers rear tire dropped off the trail.

Ended up stalling due to the nose-tail angle (fuel pump couldn’t push fuel up to the carb.

Starter died, so we pulled a good know one from @gt7058a rig and started to install in my rig while it poured rain at 11,000 feet.

Poured gas down the carb and primed the fuel pump but couldn’t get it to catch.

Created a mini gas tank bungeed into the engine bay with a one gallon arrowhead bottle. Yanked the flatline hose off the hard line and fed it into there.

And was able to get it started.

I tell my son when he’s taking a leak he’s marking his territory. Awesome pics man. Keep them coming.

Crazy that pics at 11,000’ with trees. Mt Hoods 11,235’ and our timberline starts at 5800’.

Don't you already have IFS hubs/tundra brakes? Why swap to weaker differential and a more difficult steering setup?

Thinking about the plush ride on/off road.

Current 70 series use a 8” front diff and coils and rear leaf set-up.

In retrospect I would have rather skipped the Tundra/IFS set/up because I’m going to change it all again. I figure a buddy might have be interested in the current axle.

I have a set of locked 80 series diffs that need new actuators or cable set-ups.

Coils up front and an engine swap and this gets much closer to the end result I’d like to see for this rig.

Ok, but why not just convert to a type of coil spring with the 60 axle? The extra axle housing width on the 80 axle is nice but that's about it. Are you wanting to use the 80 radius arms and stuff?

Realize that while an LC enthusiast, I lack the engineering and fabrication side that makes 3 Linking or 4 linking the front end realistic.

If I have eluded that I’m that rad l, then that is social media/forum distortion. (Sorry.. not sorry!)

I’m less than 10 miles from Torfab and follow what they do pretty closely. I typically order parts or stop in 1-2x per month.

You commented on the kit they shared this week about the approach they took on adapting 80’series suspension to a 60 frame. Also how 80 series axles will be in short supply if it takes off.

All things considered, if they are offering an “every man” coil spring set up on a 60
then i’ll Be the first to give it a go. I’m not looking to get crazy and add a bunch of engineering (on my end) or complexity. But fall in my lap suspension benefits I’m not sure I can pass on.

Positives:

- I buy a welder and start getting serious about s***.
- I get the coil set up and then fall head long into an engine swap.
- @mattressking realizes he really loves me and changes his mud handle to “therealnicewhite60”
- My wife might want to ride in the truck more for long trips...? That one is a reach at best but it’s my hope.

Neagtives:
- I could have/should have done it with a LC 9.5 diff and actually engineered it to work well.
- I find a new wife or get a side hustle, either way she might be mad at me because the $$$$ it will take to get it right will outweight the “TorFab engineered.. “Buy it Now” price.”

What’s a guy to do?

P.S I’m hoping this is a stepping stone to a SWB 70 series wheeler🤞🤫🤞

But time will tell.

HAHAHAHA

Random note...while driving deep in Ojai past the hot springs....I spotted an elusive white rhd hj60v...with electric fender mirrors and all parked at their home. That makes 2 jdm 60s in ojai.

I'm not crazy about 80 suspension (especially when lifted high) but that being said it does work well for 99% of users out there. I'm sure it will be a great fit for your rig. I just like to make sure people have really thought everything through before a big round of mods. :)

I actually think youll be ok with the 8" front diff. People break them yes, but I doubt you'll beat it hard enough with wife/kids as passengers to do this. (it seems that family hauler/wheeler is your goal)
