Starting this project led to me buying a soft top. Project is still in the mid phase.

The PO filled the roof gutter channel with silicone. Can only guess how many tubes he used. Was thinking of taking the time to get it all scraped out and filled in with epoxy. After reading a few of the roof renovation projects, I've decided the silicone is working just fine.
If you should decide one day to remove it, diesel (solvent or kerosene) will soften it and make it easier to remove.
A friend just sent this to me. Worth a listen.
Me neither. Mines a rusty mess. too. Going to try and weld new metal into it slowly so as not to melt the fiberglass for the sections that need to be patched.

That's what I did. Cut out two section in the rear and welded new steel back in. Did that and then decided to remove the whole thing and treat any unseen rust under fiberglass. While upper side was spotty rust mostly surface.
I had no real choice to separate the f/g top from the frame. It's the better approach. I found that many rivets were corroded and failing.
Welding new sections to the frame will be much easier and faster with it apart. after repairing the top, riveting it back was a piece of cake!
You can see some of what mine looked like and what I did in my build thread below.
My Scout p/s box was not leaking but the canned ham pump was. I took the pump into town to get a replacement, which will be here tomorrow. Took the opportunity to do the foamy engine degreaser on that corner of the block, including the steering box. And leafsprings and axle and stuff

I wanted to nip the leak in the bud. The leak was starting to make a mess. Fortunately I haven't had to deal with a leaking pump yet. I do have several old pumps scattered around the shop. One of my future projects is to make a cooler out of some 3/8 metal line for it. My hoses are pretty short. Right now I'm working on a leaking master cylinder. I had to buy a new one, the bore of the old one was too pitted.
Added 7-8 hp with the tricolor Toyota heritage stripes!

Serviced the rear motor mounts on the Karma Cruiser. Looking up into the frame on the driver’s side, I could see where the bolt was slowly working its way up through the overlapping C channels of the frame. Lightbulb moment!
I took the Miller glue gun and zapped some extra metal onto part of the underside of the worn bolt head. This not only ensured that there would still be enough of the head of the bolt sticking out of the channel to put a socket on, my now partially -keyed (or stepped shoulder if you prefer) bolt is now captured by the overlapping channel SO IT WONT SPIN while you’re tightening/ loosening the castle nut on top!

Wrapping the disc conversion among other mods/odds and ends on @knuckle47 ‘s ‘75.
So, as you can see from the above photo…my FJ40 princess is undergoing the luxury spa treatment at @Jdc1 facility in Ohio. It’s a really nice story and I plan on posting the details once all of the pictures are compiled and the story is complete… but DAMN ..look how good that looks!!! Mr. Jdc1 is impeccable in attention to detail…

Refurbed the turn signals. Replaced lenses, seals, hardware and mounting grommet. Color changed from OEM gray to black to match color scheme accents of the build. SEM prep and paint products rock.

Gretchet went on her first highway run in 15 years! Hadn’t been on the road since back in college. Kids were pumped.
About 5” too tall to fit in garage with top on and inflated tires. Something to figure out.
