Dusting this thread off a bit, sent the body off for some light body work and paint, should be back in 30 to 60 days :)

Doors are painted and will be buffed out a bit to reveal some primer to match the rest of this hooptie. Put the soft top back on and put the hard top on hold for a bit. Also added some Bilstiens for comfort. Once I get this thing aligned, it's...

@flx @WarDamnEagle Thanks! So the front hubs are always locked and then you can engage them to engine power by shifting into 4WD?

It looks like a pretty complete 40. You have most of the bits and pieces. I think 1st you need to nurse it back to life. Get it running, driving and stopping, then drive it for while and see if you like it. To get it running I'd approach...

Siphon is on the way! :) The drain bolt looked like an easy solution… but turning seldom touched bolts on these old trucks always makes me pause. :worms:

Ive seen many post on problems with bleeding drum brakes. If you have to pump the brakes you probably still have air in the system or a master cylinder issue. You can use a pr of vise grips and clamp the rubber line to isolate if it the...

I think the main quirk is that the hood is the most "immovable" as to both the left/right gap as well as the front-to-back "pitch" where it meets the cowl. I had to argue with my replacement reproduction fenders a bit (the apron didn't align all...

Talk about getting into minutia... Front seat bracket retainer pins. Our 1970 only had cotter pins. I found a used pair of brackets with some retainer pins still attached. I decided to try and replicate the pins with some stainless rod and...

The fender frame mount holes have slots so you can adjust vertically. When I put my dog house together, I 1st made sure the aprons fit tight to the fenders. I found some of the apron holes were distorted and created slight gaps between the...

Someone posted a pic recently of a rear spring hanger that cracked the frame, and I mentioned there about adding a vertical gusset up the side of the frame to the hanger so that more than just the bottom channel of the frame was supporting the...

Got some headway on the grease/undercoat. Torch, scrape, lacquer thinner does a pretty good job. Next will be rust converter for the surface areas, then a coat of rust bullet, primer, raptor color matched. Glad I caught that in the corner.

I know what it's like, I started with a rusty old beater in the end of '91. It has been through a lot, and I've driven it most of the time. My youngest son is now 14, and now and then I find some time to work on the 40. Life keeps throwing me...

Complete kits come up for sale from time to time, Mud classifieds, ebay etc. Post a want ad in Mud classifieds and see what kind of response you get. Partial kits are easier to find. The later 1970s tools are fairly easy to find, except for the...
