I found that Sea Foam doesn't really cut the carbon very well at all. WD40 seems to work a little bit better. So soak, scrub, repeat. I got a proper gasket scraper, my first one that wasn't also a putty knife. Works pretty well.
Talked to the...
I'm in a similar boat. I've "heard" that a 60 shroud will sorta fit with some mods...I'd like to give it a try if I could find one close for cheap. I'm running the plastic fan, direct drive, no shroud at all. Temps are fine around town and such...
I would probably first figure out what it is and what it was supposed to do. More and better pics of it and where the hoses attach. and just some more general pics of the engine bay.
Mechanical fuel pumps work just fine and I like them better.
Traditionally, there are two extra jets hidden in the carb float bowl behind the two drain plugs. IIRC, they are for high altitude applications. Take a look, they may still be there
Yup, pretty much why I had mine balanced. That and I've always balanced the engines I've rebuilt. With the help of the best machine shop in town and 'Mud (I think Mark W. even chimed in on my build thread) I put together a pretty good engine...
No specific problem other than routine maintenance. I figger an engine rebuild every 500K or so and a valve job every 250K or thereabouts. I've been putting it off long enough.
and the chevy valves are a little bigger and might flow more air, a...
nope. My mistake, I must have mis-heard. What he's gonna do is turn down my valve stem bosses to fit the stems that fit the chevy valves. sorry.
I did go and visit the shop today. Valves are chevy size and stainless steel. He's working on the...
SOR and MAF are both pretty far down on my list of people to call looking for parts. For a connrod or two I might call Mark A. in Burbank, maybe Georg in Stockton or Mudrak, think he's in Napa or thereabouts.
They will, of course, check for flatness. I asked them not to shave it more than absolutely necessary. It was shaved once when I built it the first time.
I asked for chevy type valves in stainless steel. They'll need new guides and seats and...
LandCruiser gauges are notoriously inaccurate and slow to register. Little more than warning lights that move. That should concern you. I much prefer real gauges that read in numbers. I am convinced that every engine benefits from improved...
Sure.
First I sent away to Jim C. for a set of his plugs for filling the air injection ports, had the machinist order a valve job gasket kit (it's a Fel-Pro gasket kit, which is OK but I wanted an OEM head gasket and Kurt was out of them so ) I...
Backing off 3 clicks all around might be a little much, 2 clicks was right for me. Just for fun, maybe try tightening all adjusters so no tires will turn then try your brake pedal
Today, just cleaning off the tops of pistons and the block. Using Seafoam because it's not too toxic to engines and I had a bunch. I rotate the crank so the pistons are down some, pour some in and let it soak a bit, Rotate again so 2 are TDC and...
I pulled my cylinder head the other day, routine valve job, 4 of the head bolts have washers, 11 are shouldered. They look pretty much the same otherwise.
What is the actual difference between the Late F and the 2F head bolts? Why are they...
Took the head to the machine shop, stopped at the dealer to pick up some pieces. Kurt was out of headgaskets so I had to get one locally.
New manifold studs are longer, good I guess.
The only difference, as I see it, between the fan clutched and direct driven fan is the flange on the front of the shaft. You just need to pull the wrong flange off your new waterpump and slide on your old flange that fits your fan. I've had to...
