It would have been a serious consideration had I known at the outset that was going to be the end result. Yes the intention was to keep it as a carbureted F Motor. I picked up the donor motor for $200. Then stripped it and slowly started...

I had to grind down some of the welds on the top rail of the aqualu tub. Some of the weld beads protruded in the way of the hardtop. I used some generic 1/4" thick rubber strip that's like 1" wide and drilled holes in it for the flat rail gasket...
    • FJmaine
@White Stripe what did you use for foam or rubber between the top and the tub? Do you have a vendor or part number? Do you have any images of the modifications that you made to the hard top posts?

I installed the 4Plus u-bolt flip kit on my 1976 FJ40. Next, I am planning to replace my axle bump stops. Since the flip kit has a plate that raises the height of the to of the axle, what are people doing about the bump stops? ON the front...

@pb4ugo I looked up those parts and the knurl diameter is 14.38mm. the one that I removed measures 13.88. Did you have any trouble getting them in?

I just went through this for fronts. There isn’t an exact match, FJ60 studs are longer but iirc they aren’t going to work either. So I used “tuner” lug nuts which pass through the wheel. Another solution is to use spacers that bolt to the hub...

I am trying to get longer studs so I can use after market wheels. Currently, I only get about 8mm thread engagement on the original studs.

I did a search on Mud and found a part number for wheel studs from NAPA, 641-1628. Everything I can find for a 1976 FJ40 says I should have a 14.22mm knurl. When I pulled mine, I measure 13.88 on the old one, and 14.22 on the new one. Does...

I’ve been working on this baby for some time. I have finally decided to post my journey. First the history. I first bought her back in 1978. A March, 1973, Rustic Green FJ40. Here’ a pic on our wedding day of her being decorated before we took...

Last couple of weeks I've been scraping and sanding down the underside of my FJ40 and finally got to paint the cassis and other parts. No more rusty looking undercarriage!

@SteveH Did you do this? Do you have any pics? I have a mini truck box and headers. Not an issue yet, but I can see its potential to be one. I have the heat shield off my old steering box that I can modify or fab up a new one.

That is the port that connects to PCV. It is threaded, use a wrench to remove and uncrimp the crimped port(s). If you can't, find someone selling just the fitting if you want it perfectly oem or find a 90* fitting that is 3/8-19 BSPT (if I...

PCV = Positive Crankcase Ventilation Old motors used to just vent to the atmosphere. Then came PCV valves and were connected to the air cleaner or other intake system to try and burn the fumes. Where you choose to connect or not connect is up...

I am running a desmogged 2f in my '76 FJ40. Where am I supposed to connect the PCV hose? What I have been able to find is that it connects to the manifold, but the connection has been sealed by the PO. Should I be connecting here?

As with everything else, you really get what you pay for with seats. Now I wouldn't take a 2nd mortgage and go buy a set of Scheelmans, but I also wouldn't waste your money on these cheap junk "racing" seats. I would pay double or a little more...

My question is more around the push rod (?) that looks like it is bent just before it enters the rocker arm. Is that bend normal/ acceptable? The two red lines are not parallel or in plane.

This image is from a 1976 2F engine. Two of the rocker arms are at an angle compared to the rest. Is this normal, or is something damaged? I can't find any definitive answers anywhere (and I don't even really know where to look).
