I have always liked the 60 series and just two weeks ago I purchased a 1987 FJ60.

It's rust free except for a bit on the driver A-pillar.

It was originally sold and lived in Bakersfield, CA before moving to Paso Robles where it sat in a barn since 2014.

Thanks @CRZR45 for facilitating the sale and doing some work to her before I purchased it.

Here's how it sat just before I purchased it.

Installed a 62 rear seat back with headrests. The PO included it in the sale. Removed the 62 seat back carpet and attached the 60 carpet to it.

I still need to sort out rear shoulder belts.

I haven't decided on installing 62 rear shoulder belts (grey) or going with the seatbelt plant rear shoulder belts.

If anyone has brown (sepia) 62 rear shoulder belts and wants to trade for grey, please PM me.

Cleaned up the interior with the upholstery attachment of a rug cleaner.

Edit - I only used this at half strength to test it out. I did notice the carpet lightened up a hair.

Seats could probably be done at full strength and carpet at 1/4 strength.

My antenna had been replaced at some point with an aftermarket one long ago and it was pretty bent up.

I replaced it with a longer stock version from @ToyotaMatt
F5A5761F-04A4-4415-B86D-0C62A41FC61F.jpeg

However, who ever replaced the antenna long ago. Cut a slightly larger hole to accommodate it and the stand-off nubbed collar is not able to contact the underside of the fender.

So I had to get creative and add a #10 rubber o-ring between the antenna base and the collar. One is included to act as a spacer between the collar and the threads.

I had to drill a hole in the inner fender to mount the L-bracket too. Treated with some primer before installing.

The new antenna has a ground that I presume mounts to the washer bolt as pictured. There was the same size ground terminal there without the wire. I guess it was cut off when the antenna was last replaced.

Since I had the washer bottle out and the cap was brittle and cracked. I replaced it. I also added a new washer motor noise filter for the radio.

Replaced the rear washer bag and pump. I also added a new tool holder rubber band and clip. My band had broken and the original clip was missing.

I also found some old stuff down in the fender well! A mattress tag, a disintegrated road flare, an unopened roll of electrical tape and some trail spare, Napa belts.
The worse was some foam blocks holding a good amount of moisture.

I treated all of the window rubber with Gummi Pflege several times over the last week. It supposedly reconditions rubber, according to some German car enthusiast sites.

I'd say it works pretty well, the rubber is more supple and less compressed than before.

So I have been to my dealer several times for parts in the new 60.

I got tired of explaining what the vehicle was to the Toyota salesmen and answering dumb question like "Is that a '73?"

This plate should set them straight. Thanks @ToyotaMatt
Going to need to get one for the 40 too. Should take care of the "nice Jeep" comments.

I finally realize why there are three holes on the front bumper .
Japanese and US plate hole spacing.

The white plate and period correct JDM green text / fonts really POP Sam !

Excellent choice over the JDM reflective yellow option …

My Reproduction Japanese license plate on-site stamping & final finishing factory has been along time coming , and I hope folks like the new concept and retro idea . I have nervous tick inside my soul to replace the once elegant Data ID plates and Engraving service I offered and banged out for so many before COViD took away my passion in One cruel way overnight …

This will be something like the Data ID plates , a relaxing self prescribed ART therapy time I can wind down a few nights a week at least …

Thanks so very much Sam for helping me pull that trigger finally and well here we are and there we go all things JDM plate will be pressing hopefully a few out a week here soon …..

Thanks for your support , it was super kool to have you in as a
Guest here at the Skunk-Works Laboratory & sip on some cold ones till 4 something huddled around the wood stove is something I won’t soon forget …

So I replaced the cargo light housing, cover & new Phillips bulb and the dome light cover and new Phillips bulb with @ToyotaMatt 's LED bulbs.

The difference is pretty amazing!
The 1st pic is of the Phillips bulbs I posted previously about. The 2nd pic is of the vintageteq parts bulbs.

Both pics were taken without flash.

The output from both bulbs can be seen on the rear cargo and dash.

It is a fuller, brighter, more useful light out of the new bulbs.

The new dome light housing was grey so I kept the tan one installed.
