Trying to get ready for the PIG Party after a brutal two weeks of work drama, haven’t had any time to look over the pig so I’m trying to wrap a few last minute things before we head out tomorrow. Plan as of now is to try to hit the Landcruiser Heritage Museum on our way through Salt Lake tomorrow then find a place to camp and drive into Rico, CO Wednesday.

Pablo don’t judge us too unfairly at the show & shine, outside hasn’t been washed this year, inside of the pig is covered in dog spit and I’m out of time to scrape any of it off so we’ll be rocking the “Rat Rod Pig” look this week. Unless of course Scraps hooks a brother up and lets me used his custom hot water car detail water squirter contraption then I can swing by the Walmart and pick up some tire shiny and make a run at the blue ribbon..

Hope to see you party goers soon!

You are a shoe in, I'll add a little carnauba wax to the mix.

I was thinking about you guys being in Colorado and I totally read the word "carnauba" wrong

It makes slightly more horsepower and torque then the 3 FE When comparing Apples to Apples. My assumption is it would do just fine.

Quick update.

Today is the first day I’ve had since the pig party to head out to the shop and try to figure out exactly what I did when I bounced through the ditch on the last trail run. For those not at the pig party @fj55-100 was leading the group at a brisk pace down a dusty little trail and I got caught up in his dust and didn’t see a V-notch drainage ditch in time to apply any brakes (wife claims the rear wheels came off the ground when it stopped us, I can’t confirm or deny) at any rate the steering wheel has been pointed to the left when we’re going straight ever since.

It looks like I just wallered out a Chevy one ton TRE but everything else on the 4X4 Labs steering system appears to be straight and holding tight, I replaced the TRE and set the toe, it seems like it’s back to normal now but I’m out of time for hobby work and need to get back to keep the lights on work.

I have seen sector shafts twist on an 80 series.

You shoulda looked at camp I had all the chebby 1tons in my pig with me.

It’s on my short list of things to check when I get a free minute.

It was great spending some time with you at the museum. I hope we can meetup at an event sometime in the near future, looking forward to the campfire stories.

I know how it happened, flip flop got hung up on the accelerator pedal. :)

I believe it was you that shamed me into putting on boots to assist in the snow rescue. The added weight of the boots on my throttle pedal most likely caused me to drive faster than anticipated.

I should be blaming you for this crooked steering wheel debacle.

I looked everything over while we waited for the rest of the group to catchup at the bottom of the hill and nothing looked out of place, in fact it still drove fine just the steering wheel was turned to the left while driving straight. The funny thing is, it wasn’t until I got it up in the air and started checking to see what was loose that I noticed the tie rod end had 1/2” of free play, not really sure how I missed it, how it still drove fine or how it stayed attached but it was a fairly violent hard hit so none of this should come as a surprise.

Hopefully they plan the 2018 Pig Party somewhere in the central US and we can do this again next year, if not we might have to plan a west coast Pig gathering and do some camping trail runs.

the one that got him was a good jolt for me as well . snapped my rear anti wrap bar mount off the frame .

Ok i will take the blame on this one , i have been known to drive to fast

I'm still blaming Scrapdaddy.

That sucks, hope it's an easy fix.

Man's gotta find out his limitations! And there is only one way

As it turns out all you need to find the limits of my Pig is, (A) Scrapdaddy making you wear heavy driving boots, (B) follow @ fj55-100 down a trail and (C) not have enough common sense to think any of this might be a bad idea.

In all honesty we had a great time and I wouldn’t change a thing, a couple tie rod ends and an hour or so of time is a small price to pay for the smile we still have after the trip with this group of guys and gals, I built this pig to help make lasting memories and that’s exactly what it’s doing with trips like this.

Wow, took me a week to get here but read the whole thing, lots of great resources noted and a beauty project! I especially like that you took time to detail the good & bad in getting to this point, tough to read some of the $h@t luck you've had along the way...

I have always considered the diesel an expo type option and the V8/LS a fun weekend blast but reading this certainly challenges those stereotypes.

Do you have a build thread on your other 55 too?

Cheers
