put under dash as dealer installs did...

I have a radio but just use a BT speaker to my phone.... sounds better as well :)

Here is my 68's dash. I thought about it for a long time before I pulled the long lower dash, cut a hole for a radio and the install the 73-82 two pads.

Still have the piece I cut out and the long lower pad. Would have to weld the old piece back in to go back to dash mounted transfer case high low shifter. Besides a bracket for the shifter on the piece I removed the radio would prevent the shifter from being install. 9/72 was the end of the dash mounted high low shifter. 4WD could be operated by vacuum or electric but high low was only on the transmission hump from then on.

Hmmm... I didn't think about doing a BT speaker and using my phone. However, I think I'm going to want a little more quality sound than that can put out. I'm spoiled because I've had a good stereo and amplified and sub in my 4Runner for many years. It's my happy place.... I can crank up my music and all the stress just melts away.

Looks good. Where there's a will, there's a way. I guess I could even put it inside the glove box, or fabricate some kind of under the dash mount or mini console.

Tomorrow will be Christmas, and I will be able to take pics and tell more. Happy day in my house, as the FJ40 and the drivetrain both shipped. See attached:

I'm just guessing, and not sure how to tell for sure when it gets here later today, but with the HFS (Hell for Stout) Suspensions (CCOT) on the back glass, and the shocks that are visible, and the room around the tires I'm "guessing" that maybe it's been lifted? Any suggestions on how to tell?

I hung mine in the glove box so I still had room on the floor of the pocket.

I don't see a pic (on my phone) but I'll look again when I get home. I may do that too. Something with voice command so I don't have to reach over and touch it to do or change anything.

You can tell by looking at the radio it was installed a long time ago. I know what all the knobs do without looking at it, which is good cause I can't see it while driving. It no longer lights up anyways.

New to the FJ40 Scene
My FJ40 has FINALLY arrived! Some of you have asked how the underside looks, so I will attach pics of that. I'm pleasantly surprised, as it looks pretty good under there to me.
Hello everyone. I've been driving a 1999 4Runner and a 2004 Sienna for many years (4Runner is daily driver with 1/4 Million miles on it and still going strong). But I have ZERO experience with the FJ40, and I've decided to take the leap and get into the game. I can't afford one of those nice shiny high dollar ones for sale online, so I am purchasing a 1971 FJ40 for $5k and going to try to fix it up and get it going. Top is not cracked, no glass is cracked or broken, floors are solid, body has a nickel size ding in 1 panel, and the seller said it has a factory PTO winch on it. Ran good but had a knock in the engine, a friend of his had rebuilt some straight 6 Chevy's and thought they could do it, took it apart, realized they were out of their comfort zone, and bailed. So the engine is disassembled and in the back of the FJ40. So, I've got a couple of questions. I see mention on here of F2 engines and things like that. Can anyone tell me what engine this would be so I can search for parts and/or someone to rebuild it for me? Also, I am in Central Florida. Does anyone know a good engine rebuilder near me that would not charge an arm and a leg? Years ago I would have done it myself, but after way too many surgeries and now Parkinson's symptoms, I've had to retire on disability (which is why I need to find a good price for the rebuild) and my hands & body won't cooperate. Time to let someone else do it. The seller says the PTO winch is hard to find, so I'd prefer to stick with the straight six (or engine swap a good used one if I can find one) rather than doing a V8 & automatic transmission swap. Any suggestions, thoughts, or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Looks darn good except all the stuff on the front & the fender lites. Front spring packs have 9 leafs, rears have 8, never came across a set of springs like that, they could be really good ?

Agreed! The giant cattle guard bumper is coming off and going to be replaced with a CCOT short HFS Winch bumper, and the lights on the fenders have got to go. It looks like the back is sitting lower right now, but that is because the engine is out of the front, and sitting in the back.

How many leafs did these FJ40's have originally in front and back?

And, can anyone tell me if those shackle lengths look to be the original length, or no?

Sticker on the back glass says "HFS Suspensions" so it may have some CCOT suspension part upgrades. That would be a nice surprise.

That is definitely a lift kit but looks like it will ride VERY stiff.

The shackles look to be oem , at least the front, can't see the rears. It looks to me like someone combined the stock leaf pack with an aftermarket, the stocl leafs have the more squared ends, the tapered ones are ?

Any guess on how much it is lifted? I want to be able to run some bigger tires, but especially with low back surgeries and both hips, I don't want to have to climb much to get in and out of it. I'm also not opposed to swapping out the leaf springs for something that would sit it a little higher than stock while also giving it a good quality ride. Do you sell those? By the way, I emailed your company email address again and never got an answer.

Windshield Glass Seal & Window Seals
Looking at CCOT I see they have Toyota Windshield Glass Seals, or Aftermarket ones which are much less expensive. Same for the other window seals. Have any of you tried the aftermarket ones, and if so, did they go on and work as well as OEM?

Also, on the windshield glass seal, I see they have one that is "Lockable" and another that does not say lockable. Which would you guys recommend using? All the glass in my rig is good, but all the seals and weatherstripping needs to be replaced.

Thank you.

I used both the aftermarket and OEM windshield gasket From CCOT in my struggle with replacing the glass in my windshield. The aftermarket one was a bit more pliable and CCOT said the some shops prefer it over the OEM in terms of workability. I am not familiar with the non locking strip version.
