Steering Project
Based on everyone's feedback in the Best Upgrade thread I decided to do power steering. And based on more of that feedback I decided to do the EPS, or Electric Power Steering. I finished physically installing it today, and will mount the ECM and run the wiring when the paint shop is done.

By the way, the piece that goes on the column behind the steering wheel that has the turn signal lever in it, does anyone have one of those Philips bolts that tightens that piece down and holds it in place? Or can tell me where to get one? The threads on mine are bad. See below:

I Blew A Gasket!!!
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

It's been awhile so I thought I would give an update on my FJ40 project. 6 months ago I had it towed over to the paint and body shop. They immediately jumped on it and got the top off, the doors off, the liftgate and the rear doors off and the hood and fenders, and started sanding on it. But then they jumped a quick collision job in front of it. And I guess my mistake was at the time being too nice about it and saying hey I get it, I understand. Every since then they keep on jumping collision jobs in the front of it, and it's now been 6 months! So last Friday I went by there to check on it and it was sitting outside, and the humidity and rain, rusting because they had sanded it in some spots and not put primer on it, and I blew a freaking gasket! I chewed them up one side and down the other and told them that they had BETTER NOT EVER jump another vehicle in front of mine again, and that mine had better freaking be the next vehicle to come out of their shop or I was coming back and hell was coming with me! I went over the very next Monday afternoon, and surprise surprise, they had it back in the shop and were working on it, and told me they were going to stay on it until it was done. I guess the old saying is correct, "Nice guys finish last." It's a shame, too many people these days mistake kindness and niceness for weakness. They learned that I was not. 😎🤠

I have a 29 with a 10 5/8 in barrel, in the shoulder holster it sort of looks howitzer. Its usually counter weighted with a 1911 and a combat 870 across my back. "Hell is coming to breakfast" from the outlaw Josey Wales

I know a few people who have said these same words and they always end up unhappy. Do you think this shop will suddenly stop taking insurance jobs? You’re already setting a precedent that you’re ok being pushed aside for more profitable work.
If they’ve started anything on yours, there’s a time window that primers, etc. can be covered over without reprepping them, which takes time and costs money so it is often skipped, which leads to paint failure later on.
It’s your 40 and your agreement with the paint shop but I wouldn’t let my project get continually pushed aside.

As for hood spear, etc.; if there’s no seam on your hood, the paint shop filled the seam. My thoughts are that the hood is fairly flimsy on these and that seam being filled is going to quickly crack.
If only someone could’ve seen this coming…..

I'm making them remove primer and start over. And no insurance jobs. Cash only. Since they cut out the middle man (insurance companies) that try to dictate what they can charge, they are able to do it for less. Even my doctor told me he is thinking about going to a cash / debit only system because he is sick of insurance companies telling him what he can charge and then taking forever to pay him.

Instrument Cluster Light Bulbs
I don't know why I didn't think about this sooner, but while everything is removed from the dash for paint prep, I should replace all the bulbs on the instrument cluster. Looking at the ones available on CCOT's website these bulbs are the miniature bayonet style, push and twist. Does anyone know what the part / bulb number is for these? Like if I wanted to go to Walmart to get them or order them off Amazon? One of the things I did on my motorcycle that I sold was I had changed all the bulbs out to LED so the vibrations and bumps in the road would not make a filament go bad. I'd like to replace these push and twist instrument cluster bulbs with the matching LED bulbs so I won't ever have to worry about it again. So if anyone has the bulb number for the filament bulb, and/or if anyone has already done this on yours and have the LED bulb number or an Amazon link I would greatly appreciate it!

Bulb listed on CCOT: Bulb Dash Cluster Instrument Bulb - FJ40 58-9/73 - Toyota - https://www.coolcruisers.com/budaclin.html

Definately LED. I got mine from Superbright as in Brians post above.

I just did another search and got different results. LOL! So, if you guys can tell me which ones you bought and use for your instrument cluster I would appreciate it.

And I just checked in my garage, and I have 3 or 4 boxes of automotive LED bulbs, and none are the miniature bayonet style. If it was raining soup, all I'd be able to find would be a fork. LOL! :bang:

I'm not home right now but I think this is the picture from another Mud Thread I used for part numbers.

Edit. I'm not sure if your cluster uses the wedge style or the push in Bayonnet style. The ones you have the picture of might be correct for your year.

1958 - 1973 (mine is a '71) use the push in and turn type. So, I'm wondering with of the ones I found on that website, 8 different ones, which one is the correct one, or if they will all work?

I found it! If anyone else out there would like to replace their bulbs with LED bulbs, here is a link to their handy dandy vehicle bulb finder:

And if you have a 1971 like mine, and I know that at least the instrument cluster bulbs are the same for 1958-1973 so maybe the other bulbs are too, here is a link to all the bulbs on my FJ40 and maybe yours too:
