Just curious, with Toyota launching a new FJ40 this year, do you guys think that will make the value of our old ones go up, or down?
A what?

I like my vehicles available in the dimension I exist in. My reality however, has some leeway.

I think Scotty kilmer reported the other day there is a new FJ for 2026. Will be smaller than the FJ Cruiser but might carry that name. Well IMHO all new cars have the middle name RECALL. No engine oil dipstick means I'm not buying it - I'm not buying a $5k computer to tell me some $10k chip module went bad and the car will not start, drive or stop without it - however it can start on fire for no good reason and burn down your house.

toyota is not releasing an updated fj40.....the ai stuff is going to really blurr the line between truth and fiction.

Good to know. I saw multiple videos about it today and knew that the voiceover was computer due to the mistakes it was making, but the images and specs including engine, transmission, and interior had me thinking they were doing it. I'm glad to hear they are not, because just like my motorcycle, I like having something you don't see every day.

This was all news to me. Just did a search and a quick glance of the thumbnails showed a leaf spring suspension of the "new" FJ40. Toyota is never going to bring a solid front axle into the US again for liability reasons (they've stated this) nor put a leaf spring suspension on a passenger vehicle in the modern age.

Jonathon Ward (founder of Icon) has a video out there from years ago discussing the efforts everyone was going through to try to get Toyota to reintroduce a direct competitor to the Jeep. He was pitching what would become the Icon vehicles. We got the cartoonish FJ Cruiser instead because of "focus groups". He also discussed trying to get the surplus V8 from somewhere (Venezuela? Brazil?). Anyhow, Toyota destroyed the engines and tooling instead. That's why Icon went to GM engines. The video link is on here somewhere.

Toyota is slightly less conservative now. But no way is there going to be another FJ40.

Good. I like exclusivity. 👍

Freeborn Red Question
I have a question for all you experts out there. Does Freeborn Red have a slight hint of orange to it? I went by the shop today to check progress and it was in the sun and looking better. When I first walked up I definitely saw red. But the longer I looked, from the right angle it kind of seemed like I could see a slight subtle hint of orange to it. Maybe it is just my old eyes, or my eye glasses since they are clear inside but darken when I get out in the sun.

Would be curious to know what is getting reflected on that side.

Gas Pedal
I went by to check on the progress of the FJ40 and I noticed that while the clutch pedal and brake pedal both have rubber pads on them, the gas pedal did not. I remember seeing a thread on here where someone noticed in a photo that an owner was using a VW gas pedal pad and said it fit perfect. I checked CCOT and they have an aftermarket one for $4.99 and then I checked City Racer. I couldn't find one on their website so I submitted a question asking if they had one. Much to my surprise they replied and said that originally they didn't come with one on the gas pedal.

So, I'm just curious, what do you guys prefer, pad or no pad? I would think a pad would make it less likely for your foot to slip off, but perhaps the stamped lines in it serve that purpose.

Thanks for the opinions.

I didn't have one on my truck ever, now I do.
No difference.

Lug Nuts
My lug nuts are all terrible, really rusted. I checked CCOT but they wanted $5.92 each for a total of $159.84 (plus shipping) to replace all 27 (all 24 on the ground and the 3 on the spare). No way! So I checked City Racer and for 27 it is $67.50 (plus shipping). So I checked Toyota Parts Deal and it would be $94.20 plus shipping. I checked O'Reilly and it would be $80.73 plus tax. I looked at some on Amazon and the price is good, 24 for $19.54 but it also says "Frequently returned due to poor size or fit", so I thought I would check with you guys. Ebay looked like only 24 packs. Any recommendations?

How long did the factory lug nuts last ? 50 years or so $2/year for 27 units - cheap enough IMHO. I doubt you will ever replace them again.

I went with Toyota Parts Deal based on price and the fact that they are OEM Toyota. They come in packs of 10 so you will have a few extras...
