City Racer is out of the liftgate gas struts. Does anyone know how long they are or what size they are? Maybe someone that has ordered them? It seems like I remember in an auto parts store seeing a bunch of them of various sizes, and if I knew what size they are I could probably match them up.

Thanks

@Skreddy did a great job documenting his process of converting them to gas Builds - Skreddy’s 70 Non-Resto - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/skreddys-70-non-resto.1267834/page-21#post-14832717

Did you read the 2nd sentence in the linked post above?

It's amazing what a little searching will do.
Here's a different link.

Did you read the first sentence of my response above???

The reason I asked was because I did not see a photo of the gas strut inside the spring strut case, nor did I see a photo of the finished product, or the end result mounted and working, so I was not sure if he was able to complete it, or if he punted on the idea and just mounted them directly.

Geeze! Of all the sites and forums I've been on/to over the years, this site seems to have a plethora of people just waiting to pounce on someone, talk down to someone, chastise someone, belittle someone, or tell someone to go search when they could quickly and easily just answer them. Especially the newbies. I've seen many get treated this way, across many threads. Perhaps I chose the wrong vehicle for a project, or the wrong place to look for information on. What a shame. On the other hand, I guess wherever you go these days there is going to be some small person who seeks to make themselves feel bigger by trying to make others feel smaller.

Anyway, I found and have purchased replacements and they have been shipped. So there's no need for anyone else to make anymore comments to this thread, and I sure won't be bothering to look at it again (or some of the others with people being this way).

I went to the link and read it. I'm a little unsure about 1 thing. Did he mount the gas struts directly to the FJ40, or did he disguise the gas struts by putting them (at least the gas filled part) inside the housing of the original spring strut housing?
They are mounted inside the tube so it still looks stock, just doesn’t come down on my head anymore.

A simple Yes or No would've done

IDK man, this forum does have it's grumps but it's not nearly as bad as others. Stick it out. You won't regret it.

Having converted my motorcycle's headlight to LED and seeing how much better it was, I definitely plan on using LED headlights on my FJ40. I know City Racer has them too. I did a quick search on Amazon for 7" LED Headlight that returned over 100,000 results and an Ebay search returned over 83,000 results.

Have any of you bought some that you are extremely pleased and impressed with that you would recommend?

Thank you.

There is a halogen upgrade kit still sold by Mr T. Google part # 81110-60P70.

If you were to search, rear hatch gas struts, you would find 4 pages of results. Some results may not be pertinent, some may reference several common threads, and in others you may find several different solutions or parts for the same project. You may like one result more than another or you might combine a few. I only linked one of the results. I think it offered something slightly different than the previous posted link.

I run ambulance doors.

Wow. I think I've read all or at least most of your posts and frankly I think everyone has been pretty patient with your questions. Many of the comments/answers are along the line of showing you how to find the answers which, frankly, always leads to much more information than just addressing the specific question. In fact, many questions have to be answered in context or they could mislead you down an erroneous path. Several times the answer was directly in the link but for some reason that didn't or doesn't seem to be "an answer" to you or at least you seem to be expecting the answer to be spelled out verbatim. That takes time, time that some of us have and some of us don't. We all want to help but we all help in different ways.

I have been on other forums and frankly I don't think you will find a forum that's more forgiving to questions than this one, so I don't believe your assertion otherwise. And you certainly won't find another forum with as much information about your FJ40 - not even close.

Floridalife
Most of us have been in your shoes, asking a question that would have been better answered with a little research. Everyone on this forum likes to help and they give up tons of valuable info for free everyday. There are some subjects that have been covered here dozens of times for 25 years. Don’t take it personal just try to search 1st then you usually will be able to ask a more informed question which will get better answers and less “use the search” responses. You will still get a few that enjoy telling you to search but again don’t take it personal.

Cruisermatt
Another quick shout out to @cruisermatt. I know there has been some discussion about a different Matt that has been slow to deliver paid for parts and so on. That is sure not this Matt, cruisermatt. He not only had all but 1 thing in stock (and usually does but customers bought them), but he also got that item for me in a day, AND thought of parts that I would need that I didn't even know I would need when switching from an F engine to a 2F engine. I highly recommend cruisermatt. Whether it's repairing what you've got, or his power steering conversions, V8 & auto transmission conversions, or anything else you can think of.

Thank You Matt, and keep up the good work.

Shout Out @pardion
Just as quick shout out to:

pardion

who not only sold me a complete driver's side vent window, but did the BEST job of packing I have ever seen! He packed it so well, that even though it came from California all the way to Florida, USPS was not able to break it! I could tell from the box that they gave it their best try, but they failed to damage it.

Thank you @pardion !

Barn Door Rust Repair
A few weeks ago I saw a post somewhere here in iH8MUD where a guy had pics and told & showed exactly how he cut the rust out of the bottom of his barn door and welded in new metal. I've been searching for a while and haven't found it yet. Can anyone send me a link? Or if any of you have had to do it, can you share some pics and words of wisdom?

Are you sure it's not post #5 in this thread that you started? Not sure what additional information you would need.

Thanks, but no, it was a different one.

FJ40 Hood
Hey everyone,

I've looked at a BUNCH of images and videos of FJ40's and plenty of them are 1971 like mine. But, mine has a big chrome piece coming down the center / nose of the hood, and most of the images and videos I've watched, even the 1971's, do NOT have that piece. Was it an option? Or did they all have it and people have just decided to remove it?

Is it some unforgivable sin to remove it?

Thanks,
Don
