I have seen pictures of pre 9/72 FJ40's that appear to have a OEM radio installed on a bracket mounted to the bolts of the steering box column bracket. Can anyone verify if this is true, or if this may have been offered as a dealer installed option? Does anyone have one for sale?:hmm: Thanks. Brendon

I believe they were all dealer install radios...

toyota had under dash radios

see pics of speaker and radio:

johnnyC you mean the earlier ones didn't have under the dash speakers right? i've got the stock one for my 78 bolts to the right side of the dash - there are even rubber coated metal tabs that support the speaker wire to the radio

Thanks JohnnyC. Those pictures are a bit older then the ones I saw. I am not smart enough to attach pictures from other sources, but the radio picture I saw was on the bottom of page 42 of the "Land Cruiser Gold Portfolio 1956-1987" (A Brookland's 'Road Test' Portfolio)Maybe you have this in your archives? Brendon

I have taken TWO stock Toyota radios out of 1969 FJ40s, and at the moment even have the stock radio WIRE hanging down from the fuse box of my 1969 that I got a few months ago, so I can attest that the radios WERE a factory option.

The one radio I removed was as Brendon describes, mounted with tabs to the bolts on either side of the steering column support at the dash. The other was mounted sideways on the A pillar on the driver's side. I was never sure if that one was mounted there, or moved there.

In any event, both radios, with speakers, are available for purchase.

Best

Mark it could be either at the dealer or by the owner an fj55 radio was put in...fj55's i believe had radios as a factory option at the time.

I dont think i have any literature of file that gives mention to a radio in an fj40...but...i'll check :) I like checking

i look into it really quick...literature does say it was an option in 1968 as well as in 1970...no metion in 1969...but the picture shown in 1968 was installed in an fj55...so far thats what i got.. i will look further :)

Right click on the picture you want to attach, then scroll down to properties. Highlight and copy the address on there. Sometimes it is easier to triple click the address as it doesn't always show it all. Now open up your reply post on here, and on the upper right there is a little picture that is yellow and looks like some mountains. Click it, then paste the address you copied into there. Bam!

its best if you call mark....if you wait too long they could be gone :)

Mark... what PN is on the two radios?
can you post some pics of the radios? do you have them on your site or flebay?

I'm going broke! Trying not to call him!

here is another usa microfiche that has the same dates and shows the 69 fj55 radio...it only goes from 69....i dont have a diagram for the 67-68 fj55.

i also looked thru chassis manuals for 1970 and one from 1971 fj40's no optional radio listed in the electrical diagrams for either year....but...they do show the optional radio for the fj55 electrical diagram.

Mark PM sent with questions:)

i have a few other things to look at

Thanks JohnnyC. My wife sent me a photo from the book from her iphone. Not a great picture, but it may show enough to get the idea.

kinda looks like the oem radio from the fj55 pictures....

found this post:
Mine is a '71 also but my grandfather had the dealer install the factory "package" radio and speaker. The radio was not installed in a standard DIN hole in the dash. It was a bracket which was bolted to the underside of the dash, left of the steering column. The speaker mounted to the passenger side firewall, under the dash. I just pulled mine to give the :princess: a bit more leg room.....

looks like the radio in the picture is a bit off center of the steering column to the left.

I will keep looking about :D
