That was me. Next weekend I will be mocking up the brackets. When we get all that done I can mock up the shock towers.

Did you get all of your angles figured out?

I welcome it. Mind is never 100% made up. Everything I try to do on this pig comes with a compromise. Mainly because I don't have unlimited funds to throw at issues.

Thats not actually the body mount, its part of the frame! The body mount sits on top of that piece! I build like you were going to but bridge that entire gap on that frame bracket! And weld in triangular pieces on the outside corners on top of that same bracket my 20

Despite the 100 degree day I got some good work done. Engine is coming together. Had a snag with the cam I bought having the gear mounting surface too short.

The suspension is coming along. Had parts cut by @landcruisnman and a few welds. Everything was cut perfect and all the parts were identical. Tracing on to card stock then transferring in to autocad I was off about 1/16 on the distant of the holes. Just needed a little buzz and it fit.

We got axle all squared up and caster set at 4 degrees. Tacks the brackets on the axle and frame.

Pulled the axle back out and finished the welds. Also cut the shock mounts off.

I have to make a few gussets for the frame bracket and I'll burn it on.

so I dont know the term but the snout? that the cam gear bolts to was several 1000ths short so the cam gear was pushed against the thrust plate and would not spin. It was the same part number as the stock LM7 but when i measure that part on the cams they were different.

I am making a big push to get this pig on the road by Thanksgiving. No reason other than I want to drive it and get some bugs worked out.

Huh, I never heard of that before. Seems like it was just a defected cam. Everything is coming along great so far, don't try to rush through it towards the end. You got it!

Finished the brackets, axle and radius arms. All painted and bolted in. Working on the shock tower configuration now. Flap disc'd the front portion of the frame to get ready for paint.

I took the last 2 days off to work on the Pig. Made some good progress. Engine is done save for the intake and a couple of accessories. Finally got the u-joint for the PS box. Took advice from the interwebs and got the wrong one.

Got the new drag link made and the bugs welded and installed.

You will notice there are shock towers in the above pic. We got them all bent up and welded on. The shock mounts are welded. We would have been able to have it stand on its own but we only had some temporary bolts for mocking.

Are you thinking about triangulating those hoops and gusseting those tabs? You’re referring to them as shock mounts, but they are the spring mounts also, with the entire weight of the front half of the vehicle dependent on those hoops to hold together and not distort throughout a dynamic range of motion at high speeds on highways and dirt roads.

Yes, I am going to add some side steel. There is a gusset on the front driver because that is all I can do at that point. I am going to put 2 diagonal bars on the passenger and 1 on the driver. I had been worried about strength but I was at a fabricator shop over the weekend and they had a blazer and they were relying quite a bit on the main mount points. I had been toying with the idea of a brace that goes over the motor. Not sure yet.

I got a super brief moment to work on the pig yesterday. By the time you BS, have beer, and make a plan of action, you have to start cleanup.

I boxed in the radius arm mounts on the frame for a little more strength. The motor is assembled. We kept the ac and ps off for installation ease.

I bought some headers and I thought they were well made. However the passenger side does not acount for the exhaust ports being forward on that side. Collector hits the motor mount.

The trans pan I notched had a super slow drip in the weld so I cleaned it up a bit and laid a new bead. The new welder made this a lot easier.

Ordered a panhard bar kit from ruffstuff. Fingers crossed I can get it to work.

Flame me for this if it’s dumb...did you try swapping the headers side for side?

That does work but then the collectors will be forward of the mount and probably find new things to hit.
