It runs!!! Fuel pump not working but I rebuilt the carb and filled float bowl with syringe and fired right up. No radiator so no continued running but I have donor vehicle arranged to solve that. Next up trans/T-case.
That was 5 months ago and we're still not there...🤪. If he played with the distributor under throttle we could at least have instant feedback if timing changes anything. If it does, then he can spend whatever time it takes to get it set...
Since your winging timing anyway, why not play with the distributor by turning it one direction or another with some throttle applied? If it clears your backfire, keep adjusting. If it doesn't, throw it away.
So the question is, do you rub the leaves? Did you have to put on longer steering stops? Did it ruin your turning radius?
