Front fenders and frame mounted sliders.

My front fenders were trimmed and set up for the tub mounted sliders that were on there for a long time. โ€œCappingโ€ the rockers and going with frame mounted sliders is going to require them getting mounted up where they will live before I can do any painting on the front fenders. The lower edge of the fenders will actually need to be lengthened to reduce the gap between them and the sliders.
I knew this was coming, and itโ€™s going to beโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll just say itโ€™s gonna be great. Itโ€™ll be great when itโ€™s done and over.

Why the change to frame mounted? That much more stress on the body?

Something different?
I can tell you that I wanted something of a more significant step to put my foot on when getting in or getting things on and off the roof rack. That little 2โ€ ledge just never cut it.

If you have a bender you could always do something like this. Frame mounted, removable and provide a nice place to stand on to reach the roof.
Thatโ€™s the idea right now, except I canโ€™t make up my mind on if I want to have it clamp around the frame with bolts, or just weld it to the frame on some designated scab plates.

I had to dig into the Time Machine to find old photos of my ๐Ÿ– and my slider setup. It was welded to the frame and stout. Photo quality courtesy of a potato.

I will agree they could have been a bit wider for steps though.

One of my favorite rigs from back in the day ๐Ÿ˜
Thanks sir!

I wish I still had it. They are so nice for trips compared to a 40.

Some of those 2UZ pigs are really temping!

You are doing amazing work on your pig. Will be awesome when done. Completely jealous you did all this on $5k.

So, what would be the advantages to welding them over bolting them on the right way? Maybe weld a flange on the frame then bolt to it, four bolts each mount. That way if you decide to chrome them later on, you can. :hillbilly:
That sounds like a great way to hybrid both approaches ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ
Canโ€™t say from firsthand knowledge of the bolt-on sliders, but from pics Iโ€™ve seen, the flanges for the bolts look to be 1/4โ€ or 3/8โ€?
3 mounting legs for each slider? Thatโ€™s where my mind keeps going.

Thanks man! Yeah, creeping up to that $5k with a margin so thin you can barely force an 0.012โ€ feeler gauge in between.
I hear you. I was close until I had the seat belts refurbished. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Youโ€™re killinโ€™ me, smalls! How about after we get to the part where itโ€™s been to a couple Pig Parties and Iโ€™ve actually got to drive it for a while?
I feel that to my core. Except i have the aftermarket ecu already. Waiting on parts. Waiting on MONEY for parts is my biggest hurdle... side note. Anyone need a kidney? Maybe some blood?

Well, if youโ€™re not waiting on money, youโ€™re waiting on shipping.
