Another puzzle piece.
FJ60 reluctor ring kit from JTR.
Years ago Marlin Crawler was offering a device that installed onto the speedometer gear output on the t-case and supposedly created a digital signal that mimicked a VSS. Or so I thought. They no longer carry those things, and I can’t find anywhere mentioned that they were used in an LS conversion.
After conversating with Scrappy and Steve ( @samc2447 ) I picked up this do-dad.
JTR’s website doesn’t have any pics of the 60 series (split-case) kit. My concern was how the reluctor itself mounted. Turns out that they made the reluctor ring the nut, by threading part of the ID, and putting a half-inch drive square hole on the other end.
The issue for me is the clearance for the housing. Wasn’t able to install two bolts on the end plate. At some point soon, I’ll remove the housing and have a 1/2” or so taken off the end.

JTR makes a pretty sweet little setup.
Used the JTR setup on Frankencruiser/Bonnie. $270 back in 2019.

High in the rear now, but should mellow down a few inches with a bumper, spare tire, and 25 more gallons of fuel in the tank.

Impressive job! Gonna be up their with Ron @scrapdaddy and Jim @J Mack in the hierarchy of DIY builds. I'll always remember you arriving at the North Rim Pig Party and consider that visit your inspiration. If I recall correctly, you mentioned something of a "use it or loose it" ultimatum from your better half back then.

Ha, yes, thanks Jim! It won’t be anything near Target Carrier, Mud Hen, or Rear Body Mounts level, but it’s everything I ever wanted to do, especially once the paint is done.
Back in the early days it used to take quite a while to save up money to get the things I wanted for it - leaf springs, transmission adapter, tires, etc.., then had a couple kids, some other vehicles/projects, the economic downturn from 2008 - 2012, and all the Cruiser play money dried up. It probably sat for 3 or 4 years without any work done and maybe just a handful of outings. We were on such a shoestring budget that the little dove talked me into considering selling it. “Do something with it or get rid of it,” she said. Thank God for the Pig Party, and thank God the economy picked back up, and thank God I was able to avoid the RIF layoffs and get into the financial position I’m in today. If I would have sold the Cruiser then, I’d probably be doing what a bunch of other Gen X’ers are doing. Instead of dumping a ton of money into a vehicle project, I’d probably have bought real estate to turn into rental property, or have some kind of sizable savings.
Maybe I can get into all that when this project is finished?
