I look at all this and try not to think about the day when I tear it out for a diesel swap... :hillbilly:

So I'm building my own twin-sticks until I've recovered enough financially from the engine to buy the legit kit. They are decent but are kind of ghetto. I'll post pics when they're done.

The hi/low selector (1982 34mm case) knob wasn't at an optimal direction for mounting a shifter, if I take the back half of the case off can I reinstall it as a different angle? I'd like to know before I open a case that was just rebuilt (and doesn't leak!).

Also, could someone post a pic of how an 80-84 clutch fork attaches to the clutch slave?

Thanks

Transmission swap is going well, just a few odds and ends to finish up in the morning.

-figure out the wiring (I'm an electrical goober)
-torque transmission bolts
-bleed clutch
-put some exhaust sections back in.
-do sick burnouts
-(???)

Exited for tomorrow...

And to continue my habit of painting stuff under my van random colors I did up the inspection cover in fire engine red.

And my new rear driveshaft

Drove it this morning, so happy with the results. Totally opens up the motor. Very exited to drive on the highway.

I'll post some pics up as soon as I cut a hole in the carpet and trans tunnel. It will pretty much look like every other conversion lol, except I dot have any transfer shifters yet, I'll make a plate to cover that hole too until I can afford twin sticks.

So I had it up to about 85 on the freeway, had maybe enough oomph to hit 90.

My setup for those who are just now tuning in:
-3FE with 260kish miles (not sure exactly how many)
-H41 4-speed
-stock 4.11's
-31 inch tires

0-60mph feels awesome, much faster than with with the a440f. However on the higher speeds I definitely had a higher top end with the auto, although I think I hit my drag limit before I hit the RPM limit on the top end. I understand why the 5-speed is so popular, but I'm happy for a long time.

I'm keeping my eye out for a set of cheap used 35's on Craigslist. Planning on a 1 inch body lift and lots of rubbing, it will just be off road though.

When I put the FZJ80 rear axle, which has 180k miles, I think I'll weld the diff I have now and swap it in before I go wheeling, at least until I can afford a rear e-locker.

It looks like s*** right now ( this aftermarket carpet is s***ty) but it's better than the big hole in the floor , I was driving without the trans tunnel and while it was cool to see my clutch fork moving it was loud and and probably toxic. Next purchase will be an fj60 carpet and the proper trans cover. The boot isn't bolted down just sitting there.

On a side note I've been getting literally half the milage I was with the automatic. Before it must have been around 12 but now I MIGHT be getting close to 6. It probably doesn't help that I've been driving like Andretti...

I had a 3/4" spindle and a 5/8" hitch pin. Both sheared going over the railroad tracks on Ronald Reagan just past 434, probably going 20 mph.

Usually better to over build something like that.

I put the tire back under the car, where it will reside for a few months...

that sucks. it seems you were lacking a few components that would have probably stopped that from occurring. Such as a real latch and a support under the swing out tube on the bottom.

Yeah the real bummer is that I was planning on ordering components to do just that the next day (today) and install next weekend. Oh well, for $150 it served me well for two months. I'm not going off roading anytime soon (I don't have even have T-case shifters or my front driveshaft installed), so I put the tire back under car for until I can afford something nice.

Your milage drop is really bizarre, there is significantly less mechanical loss in the standard transmission. Does the truck feel more powerful with the manual transmission?
Or Maybe the problem is the 60 lbs of dead weight you are dragging on the road behind you, haha.
