Will I regret this in a few years?

Probably.

But is it awesome right now?

I think so.

Directly next to that hole there's another hole (with grommet) with many, more important, wires. :grinpimp:

More new parts :grinpimp:

So I'm looking at possible methods of setting this up. I will be staying SUA.

I have a new set of perches. If there's some way of doing a u-bolt flip without welding on an upper perch like the stock axle I'd like to do that.

While I'm here, is there a angle for the shocks than stock? I could see getting rid of the stock u-bolt plates and getting Ruff Stuff made, and welding shock tabs to the housing, is this a better option?

check out the 4plus u-bolt flip kit for the rear. it has the curved pieces welded onto the top plate because the stock rear axle only has a bottom perch. they come with the shock mount in the stock location so if you are planning to move it just cut that off so it doesn't get snagged on anything. i think that with your truck as it is now, it is going to be pretty difficult to set the shocks up that way. people usually set up their shocks that way with a SOA or a larger lift. just use either the u-bolt flip kit or just use the stock plate.

Yeah now that you say that I remember there is only the bottom perch on the rear.

Started putting the engine together tonight. Was only out there for a few minutes, got the piston/rod assemblies put together and the crank in, still need to plasti-gauge it.

I also finished rebuilding my early 60 rear driveshaft (in bling-bling silver), ordered clutch line and some boots from JT Outfitters and am getting the last few parts I need from Mellow Man tomorrow morning, transmission swap should happen in the next week as soon as we're done with this on the lift!

Crank and pistons are in, although not requested by the FSM we coated every bearing with Joe Gibbs grease to help on startup.

Pistons, rings and rods all went in smoothly, the whole assembly turns quite smoothly.

Seriously I'm so glad I cleaned and painted parts ahead of time, it's made assembly so efficient.

I was very careful to rewrite to same number that was there originally. It's the details.

Although this motor was already desmogged when I bought it, there was no way I was going to keep the old air injection plugs in there when I had new shiny ones on the shelf.

The dirty ones will go my original engine which will find its way into another project (chop top 37's?).

All happy and loctite-ed where they belong.

I also took the time do tap and plug the oil galley plug. I used m8 set screw and red loctite, don't worry I did it while the head was off.
