Not sold on the look of these gauges, but they have alarms and different backlit options. It also means I can fit 6 gauges in the space of 3..

I was working all weekend so got yesterday off as TOIL.. spend the day with the wire brush on the grinder .. got one side and the roof done..

Started to prep the A pillars and windscreen surround for POR15 by applying the Metal Prep
s-l640.jpg

With the Roof Cleaned up I'll do the same there and then give it a coat or two of POR15
por-15-1.png

Once thats done. I'll hit all the POR15 with a skim coat of short hair fibreglass body filler..

And when all that is done and blocked.. etch primer!

Oh ... and an update on the crawler gears.

So counting the teeth on the high side of the idlers I discovered that my box labeled 3:1 gears were actually 4:1 low range. I found this spreadsheet here which confirmed why the transfer input gear and h-speed output gear wont mesh. Both of these gears are included in the 4:1 Low range kit from Cruiser Outfitters.

The folks at Cruiser Outfitters have been great to deal with and are sending the remaining gears to make the 4:1 set work at no extra cost. The change in ratio does mean that I'll need to do considerable mods to the housing to make it fit.

The 4:1 gears also add about 7% more RPM's in high range, which is why I had originally opted for the 3:1's that impact low range only. I'm hoping that they don't mean the 15BFT ends up revving too high at highway speeds.. time will tell.. I could always step up to 35's to help reduce that somewhat.

You mean you weren’t planning on 35’s?
Theyre not legal to run down here.. but lots of people do.

I can run 34's legally though.. and thats what I had planned.

por15'd the windscreen surround, a pillars, roof and all my patches down the passenger side..

this stuff sets glossy and hard.. as long as it seals and is waterproof, i dont care..

Been chipping away at bits and pieces the last few days..

continuing to wire wheel the interior back to bare metal. I'm leaving the factory tar/sound deadener in place to help with noise and heat. It will be hidden under formsheild and rubber backed marine carpet so hopefully the etch primer/high build primer and 2pack will stick to it ok and not lift:

Working on body filling the roof after I POR15'd the joins.. I used short strand fibreglass filler over my welds and roof joins, and the A pillars, but there is still quite a few low spots that will need more body filler:

I'm still working on flap disking the floor welds, drivers side A pillars and 3rd window patches in prep for POR15 treatment.., then I'll mount the doors and figure out how that is going to work with my modified A pillars and along with the top of the B pillar to shape with body filler.

I also picked up some of this to install on the firewall prior to mounting the engine: AEROFLOW ALUMINIUM EMBOSSED HEAT SHIELD 12' X 12' - https://outlawspeed.com.au/shop/af91-4580

And one of these to act as a lift pump for the diesel/turbo: AEROFLOW RED ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP 97 GPH 7 PSI - https://outlawspeed.com.au/shop/af49-1008 - not sure where its going yet..

Oh and I've got my eye on the remaining transfer case bits that are now in transit..

Been thinking about using a similar type heat shield on the firewall in addition to some other stuff. If so, would probably tack a handful of coupler nuts around the perimeters to help hold in place with some short fasteners.

Funny how an Aussie based distributor advertises the fuel pump flows in GPH and here in the US all the pumps have advertised flows in LPH.🤷🏻‍♂️

The firewall has a few captured nuts as fuel lines ran from the drivers side to the passenger side.. I'll probably look to use those with some long bolts and space the sheild off the firewall with a nut or something.. a few options.

I thought you had access to gearing options in Oz that we do not? Surprised you would pay for shipping from US...

we have Marks adapters but there are close to 2k for any gearing options.

Shed mod's underway... 32A RCD, 4 x LED batton lights, 2 x 15A GPO's, 3 x 10A double GPO's and a 6MM feed in from mains.. no more 10A extension cable strung from the trees for this shed.. .. trench is getting dug tomorrow and mains hooked up.. I wont know myself.

pottered in the shed while I had a seat out today. replaced the foam, springs and trim with one from the 80. not fazed about colors, no rips is a road worthy item. ill get some quality seat covers once its rego'd anyway.. re used the factory staples and everything.
