This part is factory as far as I know. except 2 of the 4 wires were cut. Was there 2 brake circuits on a stock pig? Have I just bought 2 switches and they both went bad?

I thought your pig was 1970ish?
I don't see a 4 wire switch till after 1974, the other two wires are for the brake warning light circuit.

Looking at your photo it looks like you have three wires (yellow, white and orange) going to that switch and none of those look factory to me. Factory wire should be green with white trace.

Yes, it's a 70 but who knows what the PO has done. The weird thing is when I search the part on Napa and O'Reilly it comes up with the switch I got 2x now.

the switch I got 2x now.
  • Are both switches bad?
  • How did you test them to determine they are bad?
  • Did something in your wiring kill the switches or are they just junk?
  • Why do you have three wires going to your plug?
  • Do you still have the factory wiring harness, hybrid of old and new or completely new?
Going to need more information from you if you want help.

  • Are both switches bad? One is def bad. It is working in the reverse. I have to push the button down about 3/4 of the way to turn on the brake like. The second one seems to be fine when I test it just hanging from the dash. It works perfectly fine but once I install and test to see if I am at the right depth, it breaks the fuse.
  • How did you test them to determine they are bad? I checked the new one again yesterday outside of the install location and it is fine. I put a test light up against it as I pushed the button a few times to make sure it was not shorting to the casing. I held it up to the brake pedal and dash too.
  • Did something in your wiring kill the switches or are they just junk? I was thinking there was some sort of hot on the dash or brake pedal that was causeing but I have no indication of that with the testing I did.
  • Why do you have three wires going to your plug? There is only 2 wires going to the plug. the other 2 are cut.
  • Do you still have the factory wiring harness, hybrid of old and new or completely new? There is some Painless wiring, some sort of Toyota wiring. The column and a few other bits are toyota. Not sure if they at 1970 toyota though.
Going to need more information from you if you want help.
So that is where I am at. I am going to try to install one more time tonight. Not sure if maybe the pedal forces the switch button to go in at an angle or what. If it doesn't work I will drive it to Steve using the thumb brake light trick. I make it Steve's problem. I don't have the tools or the head space for that crap right now.

I now see what you mean about 3 wires. I don't know why that is like that. And now I am thinking that is part of the Painless loom but they spliced a toyota plug on the end. hafta look into that.

I think it must be grounding out internally and when it is installed it's killing the fuse. Any insight?
I believe your issue is in the wiring.

I would start here with the Painless brake schematic then figure out why you have a white and yellow wire tied together.

A few weekends ago I was out in the field doing a side job and Steve called my wife to let her know he was coming over to figure out the brake switch. By the time I got home it was working and he didn't really elaborate on how he got it to work. Oh well, it works and I have been driving it.

The new motor just hit 1000 miles. Which means the tranny is about 60 miles behind 😆

I just bought a new heater valve because I don't think I understood how the LS heater works. I was still getting hot water in the heater core no matter if I had the valve open or closed. So I bought this below. It should cycle the water directly back to the motor while closed and then pump to the heater core when opened. I am curious if @scrapdaddy used something like this.

When this comes, I will finally put in the new a/c compressor I have had for 3 months. Might even take a stab at the front sway bar too.

No, I don't have any type valve like that. I use what Restomod gave me in their kit. Put up a link to that, so I can read up on it.

Cable Operated Bypass Heater Valve, Pull to Open #25-1018 Amazon product ASIN B00LEUVB30
So the 2 lines need to circulate at all times. That is why people buy the U piece of tube to connect the 2 together. So a regular in-line valve is bad for the water pump when you close off to the heater core. This valve let's it circulate at all times whether it is just going back to the motor or going thru to the heater.

I watched a video. I will try to find it again.

So, I have a tee in the line that lets the outgoing hot water get directed to my heat exchanger (hot shower) and back to the coolant filter then to the block. If I remember correct the hot water gets shut off inside the cab at the condenser. Good info on that valve.

I like that idea if the recirc when you have heat OFF in the cab.

I've had the sway bar parts, ac compressor, heater valve, and prop valve sitting for months now. So of course I bought a new toy and installed it immediately.

I got one of those devices that makes your rear view mirror a screen and projects the video from a camera you install in the back. The one I got has 3 cameras. A rear, Forward and cabin camera. It also has GPS and records on a loop. You can switch the screen to view each camera or show all 3 at once. It is really nice being able to see out the back.

Much better than a/c, braking and handling! Pig logic at its best!

I also have new seat belts for the front that will lock directly into the seats instead of the old floppy receiver. I guess its "Safety 3rd" around here.

An LS Swap thread inspired me to immortalize the items I bought to do my swap plus some steering items. I have links and prices. Some of these prices are already different from when I bought them.
