Now the second PITA job is done.
This particular detail of the build has been the better part of a year in the making. I could write a book about this but I’ll save us all the agony and post some pics.

I do need to make mention that setting up the little MIG to weld stainless made the whole process of tacking pieces in place under the Cruiser really easy.

This pic that @NikP posted long ago in his build thread helped simplify my approach. Thank you Nik!
The other thing that helped was learning about pie cuts.
And then I bought the diffuser and cup that J Mack posted, which arrived several weeks after I’d already begun the TIG process. Made the best looking weld on the very last thing that needed welding.

Did the tack welding clamps help as much as you hoped?

Not as much as I’d hoped. They really didn’t work with the pie cut sections I made. I did use them tacking together a couple straight sections, and they ended up being useful for getting two pieces absolutely square - they will let you know if any part of your cut is off.

Nice work!

Holy project creep Batman!!!
Went down a rabbit hole of old DMs tonight and found this from you in October 2018.

"I think I should be able to do a simple SBC conversion along with the paint job and minor component rebuild/repair/replacement and hopefully meet up with everyone this June, if not the next."

I think it's June...what year is this?

Poster child for ‘Project Creep’.
Look for the return of Rush and Fly By Night in June 2026, God willing.

It’s not from lack of motivation or working on this thing. Go down the rabbit hole that this thread is sometime 😬

Been following. Impressive amount of work and looking forward to the final result. It’ll be slightly different than when we first met you when you wandered into camp at the North Rim Pig Party.
