6 year build anniversary just a few days ago.

180 pages of thread bear proof of this, but I have a folder in my photographs on my phone titled “FJ55 Build” that has over 2,300 pics.
Any time I start scrolling through them it starts becoming overwhelming and then I just have to stop.

Admirable the way you’ve soldiered on while creating an epic Pig. No corners cut (figuratively if not literally). I recall a discussion when you showed up at the North Rim Pig Party that you had fired it up after a family talk that amounted to “use it or lose it.”
Patience is a virtue. You’ll be rewarded at the end.

So apparently it can bring up engine codes to help with troubleshooting. It also has lots of gauges you can select to read your engine data (tachometer, oil pressure, coolant temp, etc.). You can also supposedly select different engine tunes and change some parameters (if you know how to do that) like ignition timing.
 
I'd make sure that whatever tuning method you use can be removed and revert to factory.
One of the only cars I've ever failed to fix, was due to someone going in and monkeying with the factory programming on a stock ECM. Everything seemed to work exactly as designed bit the vehicle was overfueling like crazy. Ended up being the hacked ECM, but I had no ability to prove it had been hacked, so I sent him away with it. That particular $30,000 pickup will probably never pass a smog check again, it needs a factory ECM, and programming to initialize it and it's deep under water at this point.
Learn from these fools and whatever you do, you should be able to unplug it and revert to stock. That's my professional opinion, feel free to disregard it.
 
Thinking about plugging one of these into the OBD-II. Anyone have any opinions about in-cab tuner/monitors?

I don’t have any experience with that unit, but I use the OBDLink MXii+. I run a basically stock cam/tune- just deleted vats, etc. Mostly I use it to supplement my stock gauges. Never had a single problem with it. As the name implies it will scan for CEL, I use this more in other vehicles.

That is a viable concern. Some of the reviews state that their factory tune was wiped out and had to have a factory reflash. Sounds like a major hassle. One upside to that is there are lots of cheap factory ECMs to be had, or the option to change to an aftermarket ECM like what JMack mentioned.
