All day long working on this and not sure if there’s been any progress made.
Wasn’t totally satisfied with how tight the 1-1/2” side runners for the interior rack were fitting against the roofline. Brainstormed the idea of using a piece of 2x6 lumber as a template. Before running to the hardware store, I found some dents along the roof line that I thought could possibly be causing issues. Been wanting to try that method with the rawhide mallet ever since seeing that video, but still haven’t bought one, or a sandbag dolly. Made a sandbag out of blasting media, a gallon zip-lock and some duct tape. Was able to reduce the dents pretty good with the bag and a regular body hammer, but still needs some work.
Anyways, got some 2x6 and cut to 93”, formed it to fit tight against the roof then rolled another length of 1-1/2” square tube. Got it to fit well against the 2x6 template, except for the last inch or so of the rear, which curves so dramatically that the roller can’t make the radius. After screwing around trying to get it to bend enough, I just pie-cut and welded the f**ker and called it good. Go to trial fit it against the roof. Gap - almost all the way across, which is interesting, but doesn’t make me want to strip naked and dance in the street. Also beginning to see why Scrappy’s mounts are angled instead of flat against the, the, you know, the thing. Upper... thing, stuff, sheetmetal section between the top of the door frame and roof line.
Anyways, don’t get to mess with it tomorrow, have to go work. Want to get the outer perimeter of 1-1/2” tube work done so I can send X’s dies back so he doesn’t think I’m trying to keep them (soon man!).
Hat’s off to him and Scraps for pulling this job off already - what a PITA! Why must I be so damned impressionable?!!
