My choice of lobe separation?🤔
I always thought 110 was a good standard spread, but that was with the flat hydraulic lifters. These roller LS guys seem to like more.(?)
The BTR cam states 111+1, whatever TF that means🤷🏻‍♂️
I will still need decent idle vacuum - think steep, slow, hillside descents (forward and backwards).

Will probably need to go ahead and upgrade the valve springs and push tubes also, which isn’t a big deal.
 
Now what about injectors? Are the stock injectors up to the task of supplying the increased feed?🤔
I don’t know sh*t from Shinola about gasoline fuel injectors, but I heard or read somewhere about someone “stepping up” to 60# injectors, which I gather are capable of supplying more fuel. It’s just, at what point does that become necessary?

It also seems the factory truck intake manifold is more than adequate for handling improved power. One of the future projects is a manifold “shave” where that thing gets smoothed over and painted, while having to move a couple vacuum ports and the MAP sensor to the giant plug at the rear.
 
Now what about injectors?
If you read those dyno charts I posted Texas Speed says "using an otherwise stock 5.3L engine!"

COMP Cams Chevy LS1/LS2/LS6 Beehive Valve Spring Part Number: 249-26906-16 can be bought at Jegs for $85.00 and will work with a .559 in lift cam and wouldn't be a bad idea with an unknown mileage engine but if you keep listening to me this is going to bust the $5000 budget in a fun quick hurry.
 
Great 3 page day in here, if I was going LS I’d want some lope...but yeah too much cam can ruin all your fun, been there done that.
 
Bump for maybe you can jump off the internet for a day and stop bumping two year old post and you could get outside and get some work done on this pig then give us a meaningful update!

Fun little update -
Picked up a generic three finger puller to pull the harmonic balancer. Got that off as well as the timing chain cover, chain, and cam gear. Cam came out a little ways then stopped. After a little messing around, it appeared like there was a cam bearing stuck to one of the journals.🤦🏻‍♂️ Spun bearing.
My next move is to load this block with the pistons and rods and take it to a machine shop and let them deal with it. If it’s too far gone, then I’ll take it back to Marco.

In the meantime, there’s other fish I can fry.

I recall that you had to change out cam bearings. Leads me to wonder if it’s a common issue. Is there a cam journal oiling issue inherent here? Were some of these bearings incorrectly installed by the OEM?
The wear on the cam is also interesting. I really wouldn’t expect it from a roller cam. No way of knowing how the PO treated it.

That's what I'm talking about. If you had to buy a new shaft then why not one like this. Again, most wouldn't even feel the difference over a stock truck cam. What's a new OEM stock cam cost now anyway?

Looks like $100 on eBay...
