No I still have it. I will drive it this week while the Cruiser is down.
Will you be at Turk Trot? We should have a good showing of Orlando folks. And no one should have any no excuse for truck issues after I completely re build my drive train two weeks before
Should have the 62 back together this weekend with a hopefully quiet drivetrain. If not I'll just tow it to Hard Rock.
I also need (want) to install new rear shocks and my new CBR steering pump too. I have plenty of time for those right?

I’m not sure, the syncros all look fine though and it shifted fine. They were all new when I rebuilt this transmission in 2017. ~4-5000 miles since.
I’m running the right synchromesh fluid which really only matters for the fiber syncro lining. The bearings and gears don’t really care about the oil as long as there is some...
I haven’t really investigated other then pulling the gears out, I don’t have time today going to pull the mainshaft apart tomorrow and really inspect everything.
When I re-sealed the Input last week I noticed quiet a bit of sealant in one of the oil passages in the input retainer. One theory is I had a clogged an oil passage and starved some bearings. I don’t remember if the mainshaft is drilled for oil passengers or not.

Helped a buddy rebuild a getrag 5 speed he did most the work it lasted a couple months then s*** the bed then he got another truck still sitting with no transmission but has the 6bt still in it.

That's kinda what I'm afraid of. I've been through a couple transmissions, but no full rebuilds, and the NV4500 seems finicky.

Man, who knows. I don't think its out of the question that all my NV4500 issues have been caused by me originally putting it together with a complete mix of used (unknown mileage) and new parts. I did later find that when I put it together in 2016 and then subsequently put 15-20k miles on it I hadn't seated half the gears on the mainshaft all the way (about .030?) which is why it was so tight. I just thought I did a pretty thorough job rebuilding it correctly in 2017.

Correct, was brand new, has ~70k on it. Need to pull it apart to diagnose my 4th gear synchro issue. Haven't forgotten about the pilot bearing, but the plan is to replace that along with the synchros that look worn.

Unlike you I don't enjoy pulling all that s*** out of my truck

I bet either it's either the pilot bearing OR a syncro/input bearing/input shaft pocket bearing. I doubt it's both. Pilot bearing could definitely cause shifting issues with 4th since it is the input shaft.
Possibly related but I think @FL cruiser was telling me he wears out a pilot bearing with his 4BD/NV4500 every three years or so with daily driving.

I don't necessarily enjoy it but I have gotten quite efficient at it and everything is super clean and fresh at least.

@FL cruiser what's your indicator that the pilot bearing? Hard shifting into 4th or something else?

Just ordered a full bearing kit. The supplier is only a few hours away so hopefully I get it in the next few days so I can slam it together this weekend.

What transmission fluid are you running and are you overfilling yours by a quart?

I use 1 gallon as per GM/Chrysler service manual. I've used several different oils, usually Pennzoil Syncromesh though. But I'm having a bearing issue.

Maybe. Remeber it all began as experimental to see if you could get a better 5-speed behind a Cruiser motor for less then a new H55f. If I was doing the V8 swap and starting with a stock truck I would do some things differently. I think if I had started with a regular good used transmission instead of converting this one from chevy to Dodge it would have been fine. It has been kind of a let down. It will be nice when I finally get it dialed in though. It does work really well off-road, no complaints there.

This is the truth. It just takes time to work out the bugs. This is the backyard engineering hat we wear as we put stuff together that didn't come as a factory combo. Don't get me wrong, factory stuff is nice but not all of us fit into the mold they were building for. Keep up the troubleshooting and improving.

Thanks. It can be kind of hard to keep a positive attitude sometimes about these things when I’m wrenching on it over the weekend instead of using to take a trip like I built it for, but that’s just the nature of custom stuff.

Ok so I'm going to guess you haven't actually tried driving with just the front axle engaged and a lunchbox locker up front on pavement. Especially not at the 60-70mph speeds I am getting the noise at. If you did you would know that's completely un-drivable and dangerous. I've tried it.

Yeah, I actually broke a rear driveshaft one time and tried driving in FWD with the lunchbox up front. Never again, worst torque steer ever when shifting gears. MAYBE with an auto, and it would still be really hard on birfs, most likely breaking one or hub studs
