Glad to find this thread. I need to find a set of 1st gen Sequoia cloth seats for my 80. The 80 seat back bolsters poke into my lower rib cage too much. Shame because the seat bottom is very comfortable.
Did you ever find those?

So other than cost rebuilding factory leather seat and requiring special seat such as Sheelmann seat, what is the main reason you all replacing the factory seat for? I have rebuilt of my LX 80 seat with new leather and new factory seat foam (top and bottom), and I find that it is very comfortable, huge improvement before and after. In fact it is way way better than my LX570 seat, don’t like it at all.
Don't want power seats: heavy, slow, multiple failure points.

To pose the obvious question: Why are there next-to-no Toyota seats in this thread? Is everything a bad fit?

I’m, not sure about Toyota seats but I had a pair of Lexus GS350 seats installed in my 80.
The fit was really tight in width and height. Based on general conversation regarding seat installation I purchased planted brackets which where to narrow for the Lexus seat tracks …we considered modifying the brackets but that plan was quickly trashed after test fitting left the head rest almost touching the roof. We had to relocate the Alpine amp which was mounted under the drivers seat to get the seat low enough to fit on custom brackets. These were shot during installation and the driver seat switch was bad and had to be replaced.

I see the material is perforated - do these have a cooling feature?

The seats do have the fans for cooling but I did not wire them up.. I'm also using aftermarket heating pads. The factory heated seat system is slow to warm up and does not get as hot as the pads I'm using. I ran the same pads in my factory seats with switches wired so this setup was plug and play.

Anyone swap in manual cloth seats from another 80? Do they adjust further back than their electric counter-parts?
Yeah, I'm looking at buying cloth seats out of a 1991 to swap into my 1997 (getting rid of the electric seats), and I can't find a solid answer about the 1991 seats working. Depends on which thread you look at either they bolt right in with no problem, or, you have to fab a new seatbelt anchor set up (post 1995 swap).

The seats are in great condition and I want the leg room and comfort. If I have to fab them, I'll probably still buy them and either sell them here or trade for something.

Search for my post and you will see what it takes to put 91 seats into a 94. I can't imagine it is much different with a 97.

I have a 92 Fj80 With leather Front buckets seats that are manual adjust does anyone know if seat covers off the power seats would fit.

Talking about seat covers that go over the oroginal seats but are custom fitted.

Hopefully the way I asked that makes since

Thanks in advance

I'm wondering if anyone here who's taken out grey Cruiser leather front seats would be interested in selling me a head rest? We have two 80s with grey leather and one recently went to Virginia with our daughter. Just before she left, we noticed oddly one of the front headrests was missing. So I cannibalized one from my beloved 93 as she left. Well, to my consternation, I have not been able to find what in the world happened to the missing headrest. I"m a car nut and have several cars and projects going on at any one time, but amongst the organized chaos that is my garage I have not found it.

Anyhow, would anyone part with a grey leather headrest?

Thanks in advance,
Doug

I read this thread end to end several times over the last few months as I have been trolling craigslist for decent tan seats for my 96.

Slim pickings and high prices.
I guess i have to suck it up and drive and spend a day at a pick and pull

I may have one buried in my warehouse. I'll check this week and message you directly.

Thanks! I see you're in BC. My wife and I were hiking near Kaslo, BC last weekend - taking advantage of the phenomenal Fall weather up there!

Anyone else have one? Thanks.

Debating between seats from the following as I have an opportunity to pick them up this/next weekend depending on which I choose for my 1997 FzJ80 "Black Onyx" exterior, "Oak" interior rig. For context, I'm 6'0" and 280 lbs...

I've been scouring this thread for months and love what everyone has done...would like to hear from people who have these same seats as I'm trying to make a decision as all of them popped on my radar for really inexpensive prices. I'm leaning to the Audi seats..

In preference:

Audi A4s (Light grey / tan(ish)
Solara (cloth, matching "Oak")
VW Jetta (Black)
Subaru WRX (grey)

Thoughts?

I'd sit on all of them and see how your upper body and lower body are supported. Many seat back side bolsters push your shoulder blades fwd and that's not good for the posture. Also, some seat pans don't support your legs properly, which lead to lower back issues and such. I have seats from a 2006 LR3 and they fit my body really well. So, it's a trial and error in my opnion. I also place great importance on having driver side arm rests. They make a long drive so much more pleasant.

I don't really care what color seats are because you can cover that up with seat covers. I recall sitting on a seat from a Jetta and I thought it felt great to me. I'm looking for a set for the 4runner and may look at the European cars.

@DirtyPepper I have had a WRX and those were some really comfortable seats and would consider swapping those in.
