Check everything else carefully when you replace it. On my HZJ80, when the balancer separated, it bent the alternator bracket and ruined the AC idler pully. Damage was done before I knew anything was wrong.
And this is a public service...
Oh - OK - so using the term "reverse cut" for the landcruiser front high pinion diff is only relative / compared to the "normal" of the low pinion rear diff, but that is completely normal for the front, and nothing special or reversed from normal...
Question to those more sophisticated in drivelines - was reading one of ZUK's narratives about an FZJ80 re-gear to 4.88.
The 9.5" rear diff was conventional, but the 8"front diff gears were "reverse cut" - can someone explain?
Thanks
I'll throw in another possibility - I just finished disassembling an entire 1995 (Ford) Lincoln Mark VIII rear IRS - There was a level sensor - that car apparently had air bag rear springs.
After some youtubing - it had front air-struts (and a...
You can think of a flush as a 2 part process.
1st part - dynamic washing - sweep away crumbs of crud out the dark corners it settles in - with fast moving hose water, from every flow direction you can arrange.
2nd part - purification - get rid...
It's not at all true - what you said - that because the bearing races are seated into machined cast iron, so there cannot be any movement. Not true.
Everything moves under pressure - everything, no matter how thick and strong, whether a tiny...
Really? 50 USD each is very inexpensive - I am surprised.
At that sort of price - a full replacement every few years would be practical, when ageing is seen.
I see a really cool possibility with the air springs, (with some kind of enhanced...
Yup - Have this problem on one rear window right now - happened before - years ago.
Was able to coax it back in place then - this time it will not budge! Tried everything I could think of.
Window fixed in up/closed position - motor unplugged - no...
This is Brilliant! took me about 10 seconds to want the air bag springs!
I wonder - what is the spring-rate at ride height?
I suppose the spring rate would vary directly with ride height because of the air volume changing, but would be a fairly...
There are several types of 2 part urethane materials, some from 3M, come in a double syringe, made for the auto-body repair market - available at my favorite local auto-paint store. - I've never used.
-OR- cover the edge of the metal roof rack...
FN Wheels Six Shooter, 17 x 8 ET0, flow formed - in light gunmetal color, Gorilla brand small diameter ET-BLACK-CHROME cone seat lug nuts (came with).
These are quite light weight at 21.2 lbs each.
They were center bored (through) for the...
@MikePL your original posting photos were links, not downloaded files - they are gone - as so often happens - would you be able to re-post your photos to this thread?
This make perfect sense to me, from decades of experience in the semiconductor industry.
When a big customer has a field component failure, it has a negative effect on their reputation, so they often have procedures in place to have the component...
Agreed. Have seen the same on water pump housing - casting mold shrinkage - no concern.
And this is a machining dig/scratch - not a crack - it's an even, smooth curve. A crack would follow a random grain boundary shape.

I just replaced my window runs and found that the Max Ellery repair manual was helpful for the front window but not even close on the rear, so I thought I would put this together for anyone else having any issues with this or thinking about it...
Well this long project is finally done! This is all started when I noticed all my stock TREs were shot and leaking grease. I looked around at OEM TREs and didn't like the price. After a bit of research, I decided I would just redo the whole...
