Forgive my ignorance, but why does oil pump replacement require pulling the motor here?

It can be done with it in the truck from what I remember from the 100 series forum but pretty much requires just as much work because a ton of other stuff need to come out to get to it.

The 2uz is most likely the most reliable engine ever put in a cruiser (thanks Lexus for the billion dollar development in the 80s) but they don't make it easy to wrench on when things go wrong. Chebby this is not lol.

Well... dang.

I've been having this problem the past couple of times I drove the LX but it has always restarted. Ran a quick errand today and it cut-off but when I went to re-start, no dash lights. I pushed it out of the middle of the intersection and started checking every fuse/relay I could find. Got a tow home and will start to investigate the weekend...

I'm pretty sure the MAF sensor will resolve the shut-off issue and the fuel gauge has started acting funny so I'll plan on a fuel pump as well... so now I just need to find my no-crank problem. More to come, hopefully soon...

Shout out to the people of Wendell. I had SO many people stop and ask if I was OK or if they could help. At a 4-way stop near my house a couple of months ago, a truck broke down and the driver got out and was helping direct traffic. A lady stopped and cussed him out for blocking the road... seriously?!? He could have sat in the truck and let everyone 'guess' if something was coming. Take a BREATH people!! anyhoo, off the soapbox but THANKS again Wendell for caring about me!

Got a call from the service department last night... seems that when I did the timing belt, I must not have gotten the camshaft position sensor wiring harness up enough from the serpentine belt. The belt damaged the cable and was the cause of it cutting off and ultimately not starting back up. D'oh!! There was a side air curtain recall so they're knocking both of those out this week. Should have it back on Friday.

On a positive note, I'm glad it was an issue I created instead of a mechanical failure. Still a lot of confidence in the 100 choice.

Hopefully the next update will be something cool, not all of the boring maintenance and repair content.

Not much to update other than I love driving this thing... My sons are borrowing my wife's car on a more regular basis so she is driving the LX more often. She wanted something to hold her phone while driving so I found this OWL Expedition media mount. I'm going to miss my mix tapes but it is a solid mount bolting in where the cassette player mounted and the XL RAM mount holds my Samsung A50 and her i10X perfectly.

no updates but a milestone... tomorrow is 8 months of ownership, I've put 3,500 miles on it and changed the oil twice; this should not even be a mid-life crisis for the 2UZ-FE engine!!

You might be right about not being a "mid-life crisis." Wheeled with a guy at Fall Crawl that had over 500k on his 100, and he said only basic maintenance is all he's done.

Haven't driven the LX since before Thanksgiving; went out the other day and it was dead. Couple of days of having to jump it off and it was apparent that the battery was beyond charging back up. It was a NAPA Legend and only 3 years old so I was a little surprised. I'm sure I could have gotten some money back from NAPA on the battery but 1. there's no NAPA near me and 2. they close at 6:00pm. For convenience's sake, I went with a Die Hard AGM from Advance. Advance is 5 minutes from my house which makes any warranty claims super easy to deal with.
Will be curious how the AGM handles the long periods of inactivity that this vehicle sees. I deal with VRLA batteries quite a bit at work and their lifespan is horrible, especially given the inadequate maintenance we complete on them. Fingers crossed that 1. no battery issues for a LONG time and 2. the next post is not some type of maintenance. Roof rack, sliders and bumpers are in the future somewhere, until then - this thing is a BLAST to drive

Long term sitting shouldn't be an issue, but if you have any parasitic draws, you should put a tender on it. Talking about aftermarket wiring. Stock stuff like radio memory will always draw a few milliamps, which will draw down a battery after a few months, but aftermarket draws can kill it faster.

Might be going a different direction... We bought the LX because my wife needed to drive something when my boys needed to borrow her Sequoia and she hated the 80 I had before. The borrowing has become more frequent and she wants a vehicle of her own. I'd really like to get back into an 80 or maybe even a 60 since she wouldn't have to drive it. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the LX and if money were no issue, I'd keep it but I'd really rather have something I don't mind getting a few scratches on. The LX is just too nice for that.

I've got a couple of minor things to wrap up but will likely put it in the classifieds soon. Bitter-sweet... But, excited about a new project after we secure a Sequoia and sell the LX.

Sweet guardrail stake sides!
Make sure DOT won’t hunt you down ;)

The previous owner has been calling me wanting to buy the LX back and made an offer I just can't refuse...

It has been a range of emotions:
Sad - I have really enjoyed the 100, it is a capable but VERY comfortable vehicle and I will miss some of the creature comforts
Glad - we have needed to add another vehicle and the sale will fund the two new ones
Remorseful - I'm sure I'm going to regret this
Happy - Excellent time to sell
Depressed - Horrible time to buy
Excited - about a new project; I'd like something that I can commute in (<10miles) but is trail-worthy as well
Fearful - I won't be able to find the right car for the right price
Hopeful - the right one is just around the corner
...and I forgot MAD - which one of you got to this before me? I was 2nd in line but the first caller closed the deal. J/K: nice score

So I'm in the market for:
1. 1st gen Sequoia, 4th gen 4runner or possibly a early 2000's RX300 for my wife or son
2. Something cool: a 40 or 80 would be awesome but they are CRAZY right now; a 1st gen 4runner; 80's/90's Toyota truck; might even consider a 60 although ones in my price range typically require some body rust repair which is currently out of my skillset. Maybe I need to learn?!?

I did a thing today... Know virtually nothing about it but snagged it while it was available. Will spend the next couple of weeks trying to sort out the O2/EGR codes and ABS light but hopefully its got good bones.

Pull the abs, use the extra parts to seal the brakes back up. Get a super long drill bit to clear the carbon deposits in the upper plenum. Then enjoy an adult beverage. Oh, and take the abs bulb out of the dash. Then another beverage.

My last 80 codes were resolved by drilling the plenum, hoping this one is that easy...

The CEL has already been pulled so I'm not sure why they didn't pull the ABS. I'll dig into it and see if it's just a sensor I can replace.

I guess I jinx'ed myself... my codes are back so looks like I have this in my near future...

Will start ordering all the parts this weekend

Sold the LX470 to get two vehicles... just got the 80 and step 2 is now complete. We looked at a couple 200's but prices are just ridiculous right now. We settled on an '11 GX
Resized_IMG_5863_191657248516471.jpeg

Step 3 is now to started baselining and building the 80

Well, this just happened... '94 triple locked that needs some TLC. Thanks Josh, appreciate it!!

Now, so many options:
1. Swap the locked axles into the 97 and sell the 94
a. Keep an awesome triple locked 80
b. Sell for a tidy profit and have constant regret
2. Sell the 97, buy a old Tacoma to DD, make the 94 a dedicated trail rig... (Love the project hatchet concept)
3. Seek professional counseling

Leaning towards 1a but the wheels are spinning. I won't have long for this to sit in the driveway before I start to get some grief over it so I need to decide something soon

I'm sure someone here knows the history on this thing, would love to hear more about it...
