FYI - On my way back to Charlotte today from Atlanta, passed a late model FJ40 for sale just south of Gaffney, SC. Truck was beige and appeared to be in at least average shape. Due to traffic on I-85, could not stop and see anything, but did not appear to be a rust bucket.
A garage had it for sale right next to I-85. The name was Lanny Restorations and their number is (864) 488-2625.

rusted, needs aluminum 3/4 tub, front fenders, bottom of drivers door rusted, bottom of rear door rusted, definately restorable, solid frame, top, hood, runs well, stops good, spring reversal, 1 year old belton lift, 32" tires on aluminum rims, worn celica seats, was daily driver till he bought a BJ60.

It's almost entirely stock including F, 3-speed, column shift, vacuum transfer, even the hubcaps. Has a Rochester carb and MAF 6 to 1 header. According to SOR Tech, the engine was replaced at some point by Toyota (the engine tag only says F with no serial number). Engine runs smooth and quiet. Just passed CO emission test.
I'm the third owner and have owned it for 10 years. Just under 60,000 original miles (prior title and PO verified the miles). Body and interior in very good shape except for rust thru at the rear support channel, a couple dings in right front fender, and headliner falling out. Recently replaced radiator and hoses, brake master cylinder, battery and tires (30x9.5).

The FJ40 has been garage kept. It doesn't have any of the emissions stuff on it. It's headers to a flowmaster and out the back. Emissions can be added or negotiated into price. I also know an emissions shop in Denver that will pass it as is. I am not sure how many miles are on the engine because the odo is stuck on 80K. I do know that I have put about 3000 miles on it over the last 3 years. Entire FJ was fully restored around 1996. The inside of the tub is lined with rhino liner (pickup bed liner). It has gray sheep skin seat covers on reclining bucket seats, alpine CD player with 4 speakers, hard top with ambulance style rear doors, 31" BFG tires, stock suspension, ARB bumper with Warn 9000 LB winch, rear bumper is a 4" steel...

The inch is bad enough that I am looking for assistance in scratching it. It's been a year since I got rid of my 40 and 4 months since the 60 left for Atlanta. I am looking for an FJ 40 distraction, something that I can get covered in grease, oil, and rust flake, working on.
I am looking for something that is road legal and driveable. I do not own a flatbed so no partial restorations just needing assembly please. 1974 and up prefered, Hard or soft top cool but it must have a top (no garage). 4 speed prefered, disk brakes prefered.
Mechanically I am prety handy, but bodywork wise I am on the Frankenstein level (it ain't pretty but it is alive).
So Bring out out your dead, Uncover that lump in the driveway, see if the rust...

Very little rust, a little along the back only. All bolts come out easily, not rusted up. Floors are solid, fenderwells, bed, solid.
Original 3 speed transmission with original "3-speed" transfer case, desireable floor mounted shifter and transfer case shift. Desireable "soft case" transfer case - the strong one. Rebuilt parking brake.
2 tops, soft and hard, both with doors. Hardtop locks replaced so you can lock it up! Hardtop rebuilt, very solid gutter, all new rivets and bolts. Bestop soft top. Hard doors have new door seal gaskets.
High-back bucket seats (made by Recaro) from a Mustang GT with power lumbar and other adjustments - excellent...

Im looking for a 71 or newer fj-40. Any kind of motor will do, and it doesnt have to be running, but i would like it to be pretty close. Rust and the interior is not an issue, im looking for it to be something to take out on the weekends and to be an offroad truck. I would also like something with a hardtop. Seems to be that everyone is looking for these cruisers in this condition. Anyway, im looking to spend no more that 2-3,000 so i guess a stock cruiser in fair condition would be the best way to describe it. Im from Raleigh, NC and have a trailer to come and pick up pretty much anywhere on the east coast, preferably, SC, GA, TN, VA, or WV.

Up for grabs is a stock 1971 Toyota FJ-40 Lancruiser. It has been in storage for the last 14 years and currently does not run (it did run when parked according to the PO. The engine turns over freely by hand).The mileage is 97653 which is the actual mileage. No top, but it has the chanels and buttons for a soft top. Engine is a inline 6cyl F and the tranny is a 3 speed (3 on the tree). It has the original seats in front and rear jump seats. The frame is solid and the vehicle is complete. Will need restoring. Acquired a 1967 FJ-40. No engine but has the 350 adapter to the 3 speed tranny. Other than no engine it looks complete. Has a clean title and vin. Frame is good, tub has been patched up. Complete hard doors and top and has the rear jump seats. Could be either a driver or and off-roader with some work. Probably not a very good canidate for a resto, but I have seen alot worse fixed up. $500 for it. I have a F engine/bellhousing/clutch that I would send off with it for $100.
