While doing the valley plate reseal on my truck I noticed what appears to be a leaking high pressure power steering line. Has anyone experienced this before? Looks like Toyota only sells the whole line for $500+.
I ended up having the dealer install. Bought the OEM part during an online parts sale. Without a lift getting in there is a real challenge. Not impossible but real difficult to access. Dealers charges a couple hours to knock out.
A few weeks ago I noticed some seepage coming from the power steering pressure tube/line. After cleaning up the area and monitoring for a week the area around where a soft line connects to the hard line is again wet with PS fluid.
I found some YouTube videos showing the job for the 5.7 2nd gen Tundra. Seems straightforward enough with the most challenging part being the process of getting a wrench on the hardline that connects to the rack/pinion.
Looking at the parts diagram this should be a simple unbolt and replace and use new washers.
Tackled the job this weekend. The rack connection can be accessed from above the frame rail using a flare crowfoot and wobble extension. For the two bolts holding the support brackets, it is easier to first remove the lines from the brackets, then remove the brackets from the steering rack.
It took a substantial amount of bleeding (front wheels off the ground, engine off, turning the wheel lock to lock) to remove all the air from the system. Have a helper watch for bubbles in the reservoir as you turn the wheel.
