This is my goal 100%!

That was my goal too. The previous owner told me the engine was all there, just disassembled and in the back. So my goal was to teach my boys and put the engine together and get it running and just enjoy it with the patina. Then it arrived, and what we couldn't tell when we bought it online but was painfully clear when it got here was that it had a VERY bad and VERY cheap color change to red, and there was desert beige paint in every gap and it looked horrible. Not to mention that someone got carried away with a rattle can of black paint on vents & hinges. And, it turned out it wasn't just the engine in the back, it was the whole drivetrain, and the crankshaft and pistons were missing. So I decided the paint was sooooo bad, the best time to paint it would be while the drivetrain was out. And, the 40 has turned into the gift that keeps on giving, full of unexpected surprises, all of which cost me more money. It has become the most expensive vehicle that either my wife or I have owned. Hopefully it will be well worth it and we will enjoy it... A LOT!!! Lots of lessons learned, and mistakes that I/we will NOT make again if we decide to get a 2nd one someday. Ideally someday I'd like to get a 2nd one and be able to give one to each of our sons someday.

Good luck on yours!

The fact that you would even consider another one after that experience is freaking awsome! Says alot about the platform. Fj40’s are legacy vehicles.

Yeah, I put "the cart before the horse" a little bit buying this thing. I had the money and always wanted one but didn't realize there was so many little details that would definitely add up to make it "ideal." Smiles per gallon and all that...at least there's a robust community around it!

Having been around for a while with FJ40’s I have often said to myself…imagine 50 years from now when someone decides to restore my Suburban and they’re looking for one of those dedicated, 1 year only electronic bells and whistle doo-dads.. will it be NL A? 😂. We do have a great network of parts availability for a vehicle used like ours are

They are still a rarity, very seldom do I go out with the 40 and somebody has to honk and thumbs up or catch me in a parking lot and relate back in the day storys. Last summer I was on the La Plata mine road out of Durango and got waved down by one of the Jeep sight seeing mtn tour drivers and rudely said Hey I'll trade you this jeep and you can keep the tourists too! He was a big mouth, I don't think his passengers took it too kindly.
BTY, Yes the are 40's for sale but, I sure have a hard time believing the prices asked even now! And the $15,000 dollar ones are in pretty funky condition..
I bought my first '71 FJ40 hardtop brand new at $3,450 which was sticker price back in the day.

I've wondered if the modern vehicles will see attention in the future.

Indeed!!!

Back in my day, you could tell a Dodge or Chrysler from a Chevy, Buick, Oldsmobile or Ford… they each had some really individual styling, if I look around lately and you could line up 7 or 8 vehicles and unless I know the LOGO shape, I have no idea what just drove by me beyond a corvette or Ferrari ..and I don’t see many of those

Of course they will. I'm guessing that every enthusiast group assumes they are unique in this way but my assumption is there will always be followings for vehicles of all kinds, albeit some more limited than others. I can even envision a following 30 years from now for those stupid little KIA cars that the hamsters drive around.

I LOVE hearing when members tell the date of when they purchased their first FJ40, and the story surrounding it. @knuckle47 bought his first FJ40 in 1974 brand new from the dealership and has some GREAT stories. And he's got a couple of great looking rigs now. An FJ40 and an FJ45. He says with upgrading his FJ40 to front disc brakes and fuel injection he likes driving it more than his Chevy Silverado, and that was before he installed the Terrain Tamer Parabolic Spring kit.
