1976 FJ40 - Pittsburgh, PA REDUCED to $1200
1976 FJ40 for sale. I just bought this a little over a month ago and I decided to look for a better starting point. Tub isn't too bad, because it looks like the quarters and the wheel wells were replaced at some point. Needs a frame or someone who can weld. Currently not running. Harmonic balancer needs to be installed, but the key on the shaft is broken off. PO said that it ran prior to that. Mileage shows 66,500. Will need brake lines I'm sure.
If someone wants to put the motor back together and weld up the frame, you may be able to get some use out of this. Otherwise, I think it has some good parts that are salvagable.

This just happened I just bought a 1971 fj40 factory soft top last week when I found another one that already has some modifications done to it. Up for sale is the 1971 factory soft top 40.
It is a project all orginal missing spare tire carrier and factory top.
Has factory tailgate in good condition.
Need carb work to run.
Solid front clip and has rust in the rear seal and rockers.

I have a 1978 FJ40 for sale. It has disk brakes up front and i have recently had the fornt axle seals and steering arms replaced. I also recently changed radiator to a 4 core and the clutch master cylinder as well with a toyota cylinder. It has 35" pro comp mud terrains. It is mechanically sound as i have driven in 18 hours to south texas with no problems crusing 70mph. The body is in need of some work and is durabaked yellow and black. I am asking $1200 for all but am negotiable.
A seller backed out of a deal so I need something in my driveway! Looking for a 76 and newer fj40 around the $2000 mark. I am near northern virginia so the closer the better, but if the rig can make it, I would be willing to drive it home from somewhere farther away. Prefer it not to have to be towed, but if its close enough I will.
Looking for something that is mechanically stable and isn't rusted through on the floorboards too bad. Needs to have a decent frame (i'm on the east coast, so decent is more lenient here) Just looking a good starting point for a new cruiser enthusiast.
I'd even be interested in one that is not running if it is close enough.

I have a 1976 California FJ40 that I would like to trade for another FJ40. This post is for gauging interests and sawzall activity. I have been looking for a 40 to turn into a street legal rock-crawler of sorts and ended up purchasing this one. It has one spot on the rear sill where rust is starting to show. NO other rust on entire cruiser. There are a few dings and small dents, nothing major at all. Cruiser is all original and intact, including smog legal 2F, factory jack, owner's manual, and uncut wheel wells. Completely stock original condition. I bought it from the third owner and it has spent it’s whole life in the Central Valley of California and Nevada. Runs fine, needs some work. The body is fairly straight, has some surface rust (no flaking or etching of the steel), except the rear sill which is rusted through. I recently replaced the rear differential, new axle seals/bearings, new rear brake shoes, turned drums, wheel cylinders, and rebuilt and balanced rear driveshaft. The previous owner recently put in a master cylinder and booster. I haven’t owned it very long, it was going to be my project but a friend decided to sell me his for a great price that I can’t turn down. Well I hate to do this, but I have to part ways with my 1974 FJ40. Wife and I are trying to get preggers and we have to resort to procedures that insurance does not cover. I'm really bumbed, but as the expression goes, everything happens for a reason.
I'm looking to get about $17,500 which is a bargin considering all the money I put into it. This FJ is very, very, very, clean with absolutly no rust.
The top is still in paint and body and I hope it will be done in the next 3 weeks. In addition, I have full soft top, the heaters (front and rear--not installed). There are a few painting issues that have to be resolved, but they will be fixed in short order.

I have had this project for only 2 months and the squeaky wheel (the wife) is getting greased. The 40 has a 1F engine that just went bad this past Friday. The 3 speed tranny shifts fine, but I think the clutch is about to go. The body doesn't have any major holes, with the exception of around the transfer case/transmission hump. The electrical will need to be redone, headlights, wipers, blinkers and brake lights all work. Instrument cluster, tail lights do not work.
The 4X4 was never tested, but PO said it worked fine (don't they all say that).
I bought an 84 GMC 3/4 ton van with the mentioned 350 small block, 4 bolt main and turbo 350 automatic transmission. The engine and tranny are still in the van and run great together. No hard...

1974 FJ40 with clean title, non-op tags (current), frame is very clean minor surface rust from not being painted after sandblasting, shackle reverse, power steering mount, rear cross member replaced with square tubing, rear spring mounts outboarded and jonny joints set up for FJ60 rear springs. Tub has minor rot on rear quarters, floor has been cut for trans/t-case. Hard top is fair at best. Very good set of rear half doors and roll cage, windshield frame in very good condition, no rust or dents, no glass. Stocker wheels and axles are from a 63 FJ40. There are other small parts I am forgetting right now, they will go too.
Hood and doors do not go with car, I am using them for another build.
