Overview is that I drove a 3F in a friend's 40 a long time ago and loved it. When the mysteriously tired 2F needed to be replaced, I opted for a 3F-E. The 3F-E is by all means the best gasser engine that a 40 could ever have. It's mated to the stock H42; and considering the H42's 4 gears are about 20% lower than the auto and without the torque converter, there is plenty of power even in the higher end.
It ain't perfect, I have the standard rust issues as you can see, but it's a fun drive.
