Time constraints and numerous other projects have pushed this one to the back burner and I have decided it is time to free up some storage space and try to thin my FJ herd. So, up for sale is my 1970 Toyota FJ40. I did a lot of work to this truck a few years ago and it has been in storage since.
Body-
This cruiser came over to Connecticut in the early 90’s from California so for the most part the body is sold. It looks like the tub has been repaired a few times over the years in all the typical areas. Top of the wheel wells are patched where the roll bar mounts and in the front where the rest of the cage meets the floor. Before I got it, the body had been removed from the frame and the frame sandblasted, as well as most of the body tub. The rear sill has been replaced and diamond plate corners are covering up a few small patches. I would give the paint job a 70% score. It has a few runs in it and you can see some sanding scratches below the paint in a few places, when you get real close, but five feet away it looks really good, and it has not even been buffed yet. No visible rust to my knowledge any where. The inside of the body tub has been sprayed with a urethane truck bed liner and the underside with 3M body shults. New body mounts, all new weather stripping (window channel, flip out window, window s****er and door edge) some new emblems, and lots of new nuts and bolts. I have the spare tire carrier but I think it is missing one of the hinges.
Frame, Suspension, and Steering-
The frame is beautiful, not a spot of rot. The rear corner braces have been replaced. The suspension is stock with add-a-leaves, lift shackles in the rear, and Ranco RS5000 shocks. Up front most of the ball joints are new but the steering box is a little sloppy. I was planning on converting to power steering.
Engine and Drive Line-
2F engine, it is equipped with headers, a Holly carb, electric fuel pump, and a new electronic ignition. Runs ok, but a tune up would be a good idea and the carb might need to be rebuilt due to how long it has been sitting. All the smog equipment has been removed I have no idea how many actual miles are on this engine because it is not the original. The exhaust system is nearing the end of its life; it is a little rusty and has a few small leaks.
The three on the tree was converted to a floor shift when the 2F was installed. The transfer case is vacuum operated and works as well, as do the locking hubs. I just replaced the brake master cylinder with a new Toyota unit, but a few of the wheel cylinders and adjusters are frozen, so it doesn’t stop that well right now, only one of the rear wheels locks up. The tires are brand new 31”ers.

Interior and Electrical-
The seats are out of a 89 Honda Prelude, with no rips or tares, but they do show a little ware. It has an aftermarket six point roll cage. No seat belts. The heater core is good but has not been plumbed in. The blower motor works. New sun pro oil pressure and temperature gauges. Brand new wiring harness. Rear brake lights are new supper bright LED style. Front blinkers are new. All the marker lights work. New battery and battery hold down, new blinker switch, new hi/low beam switch, and a new horn. Windshield wipers are missing a few parts like grommets and arms, but the motor works. Dash pad has been recovered. Heater works but needs defroster ducts.

There really isn’t much work needed to get this cruiser back on the road, I just lost interest and have no time. Due to the condition of the brakes this vehicle needs to be towed or tailored away. I will include a Connecticut bill of sale, but no title because Connecticut dose not title vehicles of this age. I would rather not get involved shipping, but I may be able to trailer within an hours travel if my schedule permits.

... I have others. What are you looking for? Thanks

Looking for a project that can be put on the road quickly and slowly repair minor things. Rust and major engine work is the only thing I want to avoid.

Send me pics of what you have. Thanks.

James
