Bit different shots for the thread: took ours to a local cars and coffee. We were the only Toyota. All cleaned up and ready to get dirty again :)

@Waorani Yes. M2 were newer but not newest. Yours still has the classic Columbian "T" style jaws (great if they are new like yours, a royal P.I.T.A. if you have to replace them). Mine have the newest style replaceable jaws. Biggest...

I'm not a collector (although it dawns on me they're starting to accumulate) but I do keep my eyes open for larger vises. Just picked up this Columbian 205-M2 from state surplus auction. Dirty but paint is intact and jaws look perfect so thinking...

@Waorani My 205 is the only vise I can never sell. Was my Dad’s vise. A phenomenal tool!

the upper parts do look shop-made, but the base less so. Maybe the latter was reused from something else? All together, it reminds me of the stuff I see on YT about made in small shops in Pakistan. (It actually is quite amazing how some of it...

@Shyrock Looks like some steel vises i have seen. Perhaps "shop" made? The weld on the dynamic is what makes me think so. Recent import designs look nothing like this one. Closest out there design wise are new Ridgid and Heuer vises but...

@TomH I can't turn down a nice 3" vise. These are so cool! Time to make a handle. @bhsdriller The Athol 6 series are TANKS! The size of the jaw support and the heft of their static jaw above the slide are like no other manufacturer. Great find!

@RodrigzCrzr If you are going to start doing vise restorations, this is a great tool for your toolbox. Sharpie paint markers make the lettering effortless!

Well somewhat finished my Athol 614 1/2 vise refurb. Just need to do the handle. I think it came out pretty darn good. Next is to build a stand for it.

Yes! I cut a top flange to match the bottom of the static jaw and bolted it to it. It is not common practice to weld anything to the actual vise.

Bolting to the stand is what I would project. The mounting flange portion of the vise is likely cast iron, so welding would not be a good solution. Kudos on your new vise.

@RodrigzCrzr Athol vises are absolute TANKS! Great pick up!!! What size jaws? Judging by the slide length, I’d say it is at least a 6”. Here is a picture of my 300 pound 8” Athol 618.

looks a lot like my old 93, but yours has taller jaws and (oddly) a much shorter ram proportionally. I'm thinking mine is from the early 1900s as well. The 182 cost $20 in 1914 but with pipe jaws (and the center mounting rod).

co-worker gave me this Prentiss 182. I believe it is pre 1920's. Weighs a ton and is in very good condition.

@bsilva132 Post a pic of the swivel lock on the other side. They went from the plunger style (early) to the lever style in the 20s I believe.

@Mr Wonderful I've had both and can say that I think I like the newer design (excluding the fact that mine, as yours was new, and had no issues). It is not as massive in the lower jaws as the old ones were but I like the fact that there is full...

So… I sold my Wilton 800. Guy came by to buy a 5” Reed and saw it and said he had to have it. Promptly told him he couldn’t afford it as it was not for sale. He assured me he could afford it and bought both vises that day. 3 days later, I...
