Put a new (to me) carb on it. Runs SOOOOOO much better. Going to address the cooling issues this weekend and fix the leaking Transfer case. Maybe I'll be able to use it this summer after all.

I had trans fluid leaking from my tranny pan and 3 spots on the transfer case. I am now down to one leak! Have you ever had transmission fluid in your eye ball? It is amazing......:o

Well, I really didn't do it this week but I did get it done just before the Rubithon - I stretched out the wheel base and put FJ60 springs on my 40. It is definately on my list of Top 10 Best Things I've done to the FJ40.

The FJ40 springs never moved this nicely.

July 1st. Canadian Eh!

Spent our nations birthday in the bush enjoying our freedom with some close friends. Unfortunately as a result of a bad ground on behalf of a faulty night switch my electric fans turned off and my temp spiked. It happened so fast. Hope I didn't bake the old big block. New oil, coolant and stat for good measure and so far so good.

Installed the new 4-core aluminum radiator from Champion Radiators, along with a Derale 2-speed 16" electric fan/shroud combo, and accompanying fan controller.

Modified the existing radiator cradle to accommodate additional thickness of the new radiator, and welded some M6x1.0 nuts on the inside of the cradle for the fan mounting brackets.

Also remote mounted the oil filter, and added an oil temp sender in the filter loop.

I installed a newish gear reduction Denso starter (FJ60-era starter) this AM in my '78 FJ40. I'm so disappointed - it no longer sounds and cranks like my '58 Massey Ferguson tractor on a cold morning - rrrr-rrrr-rrrr.

It cranks more quickly and sounds a lot better. The new starter weighs far less than the old boat-anchor factory '78 starter, too - it'll surely shave seconds off my 0-60 time.

Nice, I should be doing the same when my replacement starter arrives later this week.
