Used mine as a tractor , strapped some trees in back yard had two mud members ( D'animal and jerry) help with chain saws

Saginaw Mounted

I drilled through my cross member to mount my saginaw box. There's no turning around now.

Looks good with a little beefing up you'll be set.

Is that I cast mount? How large tires are you planning to run? How do you use your truck?
 
Throttle Linkage

At S&T, we had some trouble with the throttle rod popping out of the firewall socket. This is a later model 2f replacement, and the throttle linkage was not the strong point. It was so ugly I didn't even take a 'before' picture. Image a rusty hunk of scrap metal held to the firewall by one bolt in the top hole. We reused the tube, but pointed it in the right direction and spaced it out to the linkage couldn't pop out. All stainless steel, btw.

I was replacing the brake booster when I was reminded that I needed to deal with the PO's mechanic's crap.

I wouldn't have thought it was advisable to have that mounted to the firewall when the engine must be able to rock on its mounts. :frown:

Wouldn't "dropping the clutch" but strain on that linkage?

A stock '78 has a similar firewall bracket but with a rubber gromet. I'll have to see how much the torque rod can move fore and aft, but I don't think it could move 1/2".

I was thinking the engine would torque only side-to-side. Both ends of the shaft have ball ends, so it can move that way. There's a ball end inside the tip of the stainless tube. It might need to be trimmed so there's a bit more gap for front-to-back movement.

I'm pretty sure the stock linkage (#51) firewall end is just a cut-off rod. Somehow the one I have has been modified. I'll have to look at it more closely.

I have a bone stock 78 and 1/2 inch would be about all the movement it could stand.
 
Corrected a sticky float on my gas gauge sender. The gauge wouldn't read anything below a half a tank. The float on the sender was sticking at half-full and wouldn't drop below that. All fixed now.

Anybody have any tips on tuning a Pro-Flo XT EFI system?

Eddy's throttle linkage is half FJ60 and half FJ40.
And that's why it doesn't play nicely. :frown:

There is a tork rod for 81-newer FJ40 that has the 60 style front end, and the plain FJ40 tail end that just rides in a rubber grommet at the firewall.

The FJ60 tork rod is suspended from ball&sokt at both ends. There's a fancy swinging bracket on the firewall to allow for movement between body & engine. See part #60 in SOR's linkage illustration below.

BTW Eddy, there should be a hairpin clip to keep the ball end in the carb socket, doesn't seem to be there? That would help keep that end in place.
 
Picked these rims up on CL a few months ago. I had tried to clean them, first picture is after steel wool and various cleaners. Decided yesterday to bring out the big guns. Started with 100 grit sand paper then 400, 800, 1000, 1500 and then a polishing wheel on the grinder. I need a dremel to work on the center more. (Vehicle just roles around the garage and driveway now, so only 3 lug nuts I know)

That looks great!!! Now come do mine for me. JK. I have the same rims with the same problem on my 94 Chev K2500 6.5TD. Now that you have them polished so nice what do you do to keep them from getting oxidised again?
