A friend recently spoke with an oil scientist. The guy stated older motors should not run synthetic oil due to it not containing zinc, Anyone every heard of this?


you have been seriously miss-informed by your friend and his oil scientist ...

- taking into account , you must first adhere strictly to the Viscosity Charts in your owners manual and FSM ....

- the moment you drain out the Liquid Fossils , and replace it and them with man-kinds best , nourishing full Synthetics anything ...

- then your Land Cruiser enters the Neutral wear and tear Zone .... :cool:

took the top off for the first time since as long as we've owned it in the 90's. A bit of corrosion, but not surprising.

I was excited to take it out for a drive and on a 5 or so mile drive, the brake pressure switch blew out the bottom and I lost my brakes, this is the second time it happened. Is this because I purchased cheap aftermarket switches or because I didn't bleed properly? something else? Crazy dangerous.

I went on my bachelor trip last friday to maine! was super cool. I did not see alot of land cruisers though. However I did see this jeep sticker at a brewery. somthing seems wrong about it hahaha.

getting ready to pull my transmission for a refresh, so took a couple of hours to clean up the transmission cover. Trans covers are not allowed in schools or libraries (😄) found a bit of rust at the top and bottom of the noise damper so pulled it all off, with a wide blade scraper it came off pretty easily

Net result was a clean transmission tunnel

In the interest of accuracy, Flatlanderfj40's picture is of Rotella T4 which is their non-synthetic oil and also my choice to use in my 40. Good stuff.

Finally finished a project I started years ago. I extended the driver's seat to gain a little more legroom in 2018. Didn't have the opportunity or motivation to do the passenger seat until today. Just simple straps, hand bent and drilled. It's not perfectly even but it looks better visually. Now my ladies won't feel like they are kissing the windshield when I'm driving them around. 🙂

Not just today but the last Month's since a part took forever. I powdercoated the fan shroud and upper thermostat housing off white. Cleaned and painted the radiator housing and horns black. Finally replaced thermostat and all of the radiator hoses with OEM. Funny thing though, I still had to cut some of the tubing a little bit because it was too long in some sections and would kink. It was annoying.

Maine land cruisers are just getting out of winter/ salt hibernation. There are a few in the Portland area (mine included) that are starting to get some road time. What brewery were you at?

I think it was called the bisselle brothers brewery. I had I think 3 beers and I had a hangover for 2 days it felt like haha. My buddy was saying it was pretty warm for when I was up there. I saw a really really clean fj62 in a parking lot. Next time I am up there Ill have to see if I can meet up with some land cruiser people. I want to go back. I got some amazing photos up there. Hopefully I can take Rachael up sometime next spring.
 
Worked on a few of my 89620-60010, 60011 and 60012 ignitor restorations. Found some rare resistors and NPN transistors from Japan and sourced NOS Denso ignition coils 90919-02083. Still looking around the world for ND 90919-02077 coils as I realized the size difference as shown of the external resisted coils.
